It took courage for the author to post a piece related to an event that wasn't very popular in our history, and courage to post it at all, since he originally did not intend to. It gives the reader an insight into ways events such as this one do affect people's lives deeply, whether or not they themselves were directly involved. And that's a viewpoint not often told.
