It Came Upon The Midnight Clear

It came upon the midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth,
To touch their harps of gold:
"Peace on the earth, goodwill to men,
From heaven's all-gracious King."
The world in solemn stillness lay,
To hear the angels sing.

Still through the cloven skies they come,
With peaceful wings unfurled,
And still their heavenly music floats
O'er all the weary world;
Above its sad and lowly plains,
They bend on hovering wing,
And ever o'er its Babel sounds
The blessèd angels sing.

Yet with the woes of sin and strife
The world has suffered long;
Beneath the angel-strain have rolled
Two thousand years of wrong;
And man, at war with man, hears not
The love-song which they bring;
O hush the noise, ye men of strife,
And hear the angels sing.

And ye, beneath life's crushing load,
Whose forms are bending low,
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow,
Look now! for glad and golden hours
come swiftly on the wing.
O rest beside the weary road,
And hear the angels sing!

For lo!, the days are hastening on,
By prophet seen of old,
When with the ever-encircling years
Shall come the time foretold
When peace shall over all the earth
Its ancient splendors fling,
And the whole world send back the song
Which now the angels sing.

I wish you all peace, and that you may personally come to know the love of God.

Patricia

*It Came Upon the Midnight Clear is a poem and Christmas carol written by Edmund Sears, pastor of the Unitarian Church in Weston, Massachusetts. It first appeared on December 29, 1849 in the Christian Register in Boston.

Sears is said to have written these words at the request of his friend, W. P. Lunt, a minister in Quincy, Massachusetts. In 1850 Richard Storrs Willis, a composer who trained under Felix Mendelssohn, wrote the melody called "Carol". "Carol" is the most widely-known tune to the song in the USA. In the UK the tune called "Noel", which was adapted from an English melody in 1874 by Arthur Sullivan is the usual accompliment.

Weather forecast for tonight: dark.

~George Carlin

Hello everyone;

Been away for a few days due to a migraine and making best friends with my emergency inhaler. So, in honor of me getting out of my pajamas today, I thought I'd send all of you a little funny regarding the weather.

I suppose this is timely considering the rain, fog, sleet, and snow blanketing most of the country. Sorry to you folks outside the US, I'll have to check international weather conditions.

Ta and peace,

P

What's the Weather?

It was already late fall and the Indians on a remote reservation In South Dakota asked their new chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild.

Since he was a chief in a modern society he had never been taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky he couldn't tell what the winter was going to be like.

Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he told his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that members of the village should collect firewood to be prepared.

But being a practical leader, after several days he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked, "Is the coming winter going to be cold?"

"It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold," the meteorologist at the Weather Service responded.

So the chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more firewood in order to be prepared.

A week later he called the National Weather Service again. "Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?"

"Yes," the man at National Weather Service again replied, "it's going to be a very cold winter."

The chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find.

Two weeks later the chief called the National Weather Service again. "Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?"

"Absolutely," the man replied. "It's looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters we've ever seen."

"How can you be so sure?" the chief asked.

The weatherman replied, "Because the Indians are collecting firewood like crazy."

"I think I did pretty well, considering I started out with nothing but a bunch of blank paper."

~ Steve Martin

Hey Everyone;

I was going to write something totally different here today. Instead, I wanted to share something nice with you.

There will be no fame, there will be no pay, but a submission of mine finally made it to a small e-zine. *Smile* It's not much but it's a nice start.

'Red Fog' was accepted and is now on the electronic page at MicroHorror. Yay!

I received a nice little response from the editor welcoming me to the zine. With hope I can send a few more of my 'little horror-flash pieces' there and have something to put in a bio. Until now, all I've been able to think of for my bio is 'pudgy blonde pimping herself to the mundane while awaiting publication'. *Laugh*

Ta for now,

P

"The majority of us lead quiet, unheralded lives as we pass through this world. There will most likely be no ticker-tape parades for us, no monuments created in our honor. But that does not lessen our possible impact, for there are scores of people waiting for someone just like us to come along; people who will appreciate our compassion, our unique talents. Someone who will live a happier life merely because we took the time to share what we had to give. Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have a potential to turn a life around. It's overwhelming to consider the continuous opportunities there are to make our love felt."

~ Leo Buscaglia

Hello Everyone;

Today I'm going to something a tad different.

Last week lindamv shared a poem with me that she had written while in her car waiting for her husband to complete an errand. I cried at first when reading the poem because life, anguish, and death were so close at that point, and then smiled when she told me about sitting in the car because this is one of the things writers do while waiting ... drag out the pen and pad and let your mind capture something in the air while it is still alive and moving around you. Truly inspiration can come at any time in any place. All we have to do is stay open to inspiration remaining our friend. Hmmm ... seems to me like this is an honest reflection of our lives and continuing frienships ... the remaining open part, isn't it?

The poem is hot off the presses and I'm not sure that it has made it to her port. Linda has graciously given me permission to display it here for everyone to read. I hope each of you enjoy the personal revelation and understanding in her words.

Ta and peace,

P

Highs and Lows

A wonderful time
A fabulous day;
With you by my side
The time flies away.
You’d expect I would be
Content for a while,
Endorphins ensuring
A continuous smile.

But whenever I have
A day that’s sublime
Good feelings are swamped
By depression each time.
Roller-coaster highs
Are followed by lows;
An up short and sweet
That very quickly goes.

Even though I’m determined
To change how I feel,
The lows keep on coming -
It’s all so surreal.
The best I can hope for
is to ride out the blues;
but I’d like to feel good
because that’s what I choose.

Hello Everyone;

I hope all is well out there in Internet land. By the way, is anyone else having trouble with the slowness of the site, or is it just me? Egads! I think my mouse died from clicking without response.

I had intended to write something tonight, or now today since it's after 1:30 am, but I've got to go to bed. Somehow time slipped away from me and the days went away. I'll write tomorrow when I can think a little more clearly. Been a little teetery in my head.

Just wanted to let you know I was still here working through life ... like shopping (two trips to Walmart-just think of all that while I catch some z's), and mothers, and all those things that drive you a bit too near the edge of the cliff. *Smile*

Hang in there everyone. Life is a highway.

P

ps Hopefully tomorrow I can put in a song or two. Tonight it was just impossible to connect.

Hello people;

I thought you all might like a laugh today. Okay, this is a tad sordid, but this video points out the normalcy of those deemed a tad different. Out of drama often comes the greatest comic relief.

Enjoy the video.

"That's the thing about depression: A human being can survive almost anything, as long as she sees the end in sight. But depression is so insidious, and it compounds daily, that it's impossible to ever see the end. The fog is like a cage without a key."

~ Elizabeth Wurtzel

"Mysteriously and in ways that are totally remote from normal experience, the gray drizzle of horror induced by depression takes on the quality of physical pain ... it is entirely natural that the victim begins to think ceaselessly of oblivion."

~ WILLIAM STYRON

"This is my depressed stance. When you're depressed, it makes a lot of difference how you stand. . . . The worst thing you can do is straighten up and hold your head high because then you'll start to feel better. . . . If you're going to get any joy oujt of being depressed, you've got to stand like this."

~ Charles M. Schulz

Hello people;

I am deep within a rabbit hole. Many of my friends will understand the darkness in which I sit. But, I continue working on me, knowing this isn't the sum total of what I am, just a reflection of my inner brain misfiring, which at times makes me impotent.

Depression is an odd thing to relate to people. Even I don't like to hear all my thoughts continually played through my brain as if a demon with O.C.D. was in charge of the mental jukebox. That would be one of the first things I would change, and I'm really looking for that stop-gap measure. So, for those of you who care, and I know that you truly do, it's just sometimes a burden I don't wish always to pile on your heads and shoulders. But rest assured there will be times when I will write to you and sob out my woes. Thank you for listening and helping are inadequate words to describe the comfort each of your encouraging words have meant.

In all of these mental gymnastics I am eternally greatful that I've met people who understand the intricacies of my person and have remained friends through some dark days. At times I am two people residing within the same body and mind. My sides are full of light and full of dark. I have learned to accept this part of me as I work toward a more consistent emotional life, knowing that this really isn't God's plan for my life, but a road I must travel in order to find peace. And I'm never opposed to a miracle happening, in fact, I am looking for that miracle.

To all of you who know the depths of depression and the highs of life, I applaud you for hanging in there while your pendulum swings out of control. Please know I am here for you and your woes as well despite living in this hole. For there is strength in numbers when we feel alone and lost. I hope that me stepping out of my closet a bit with some of these thoughts will encourage someone that feels life is ending. Life doesn't have to end, but it is fragile and needs constant nurturing.

Ta and peace,

Patricia

Greetings, my royal subjects;

That piece of fluff 'P', has followed the other blonde twit Alice while trying to channel her thoughts, and has fallen down a rabbit hole in search of truth and perhaps a little pill to empty her brain even more. All I can say is, 'Sentence first! Verdict afterwards'.

Blondes were always troublesome creatures. Off with her head!

WHITE RABBIT

Jefferson Airplane

One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Call Alice
When she was just small

When men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said:
"Feed your head
Feed your head
Feed your head"

Three Blondes: The Detection of Dumb...

Three blondes were all applying for the last available position on the Texas Highway Patrol.

The detective conducting the interview looked at the three of them and said, "So y'all want to be cops, huh?"

The blondes all nodded.

The detective got up, opened a file drawer and pulled out a folder. Sitting back down, he opened it and pulled out a picture, and said, "To be a detective, you have to be able to detect. You must be able to notice things such as distinguishing features and oddities, such as scars and so forth." So saying, he stuck the photo in the face of the first blonde and withdrew it after about two seconds.

"Now," he said, "did you notice any distinguishing features about this man ?"

The blonde immediately said, "Yes, I did. He has only one eye!"

The detective shook his head and said, "Of course he has only one eye in this picture! It's a profile of his face! You're dismissed!"

The first blonde hung her head and walked out of the office.

The detective then turned to the second blonde, stuck the photo in her face for two seconds, pulled it back and said, "What about you? Notice anything unusual or outstanding about this man?"

"Yes! He only has one ear!"

The detective put his head in his hands and exclaimed, "Didn't you hear what I just told the other lady? This is a profile of the man's face! Of course you can only see one ear!! You're excused too!"

The second blonde sheepishly walked out of the office.

The detective turned his attention to the third and last blonde and said, "This is probably a waste of time, but..." He flashed the photo in her face for a couple of seconds and withdrew it, saying, "All right, did you notice anything distinguishing or unusual about this man?"

The blonde said, "I sure did. This man wears contact lenses."

The detective frowned, took another look at the picture and began looking at some of the papers in the folder.

He looked up at the blonde with a puzzled _expression and said, "You're absolutely right! His bio says he wears contacts! How in the world could you tell that by looking at his picture?"

The blonde rolled her eyes and said, "Well, Helloooo! With only one eye and one ear, he certainly can't wear glasses. *Laugh**Laugh**Laugh**Blush*

“I love writing. I love the swirl and swing of words as they tangle with human emotions.”

James A. Michener (U.S. novelist and short-story writer, 1907?-1997)

Hello people;

Yes, (kind of) to the first part of the quote, yes, for certain to the latter part of the quote, although I could use a mega-strength detangler today.

I wanted to stop in and say hi. The world, my stomach, and head are swirling at the moment. For days I've been fending off a vertigo spell, eating anti-nausea pills at the least hint of swirling. Today was kind of bad so I did laundry and that was about it. Yesterday I sat at the computer too long while attempting the near impossible of getting some of my writing back on track and searching out new unsuspecting venues where I might dump a load of poo into their inbox. Ah, the scent of success fills the air with the decay of human waste.

I guess the emotions and such are finally taking their toll. I've lost eight pounds since last Tuesday, usually a highlight of the decade, but I DON'T recommend the weight loss program of the sad. I'm exhausted beyond belief and really, really cold. The weather finally turned cold along with my emotions. Such is the nature of these things.

Well, the Governor and I will be baaaack, hopefully tomorrow, to fill your lives with more poo from the pen of 'P'.

Ta and peace,

P
