1. She shrieked as the glass vase came crashing down on the ground.

2. She sailed into the room wearing a beautiful blue dress decorated with sequins.

3. I love the aroma of henna.

4. The warmth of her hand soothed me when I felt bad.

5. The red chilli seeds felt like needles on my tongue.

6. My niece giggles when I rub her nose with mine.

7. Jasmines filled the air with sweetness.

8. She seems to wear Dove body spray.

9. Her swelled foot was enough to tell she was ill.

10. The rickety stairs cracked under her booted feet.

11. I like hard candy with a hint of coffee.

12. The soft feather felt like velvet under my finger.

13. I feel nauseas around smokers.

The Freytag's Pyramid has five parts:

1.Exposition

2. Rising action

3.Climax

4.Falling Action

5. Resolution

A little girl, about seven or eight years of age, could be seen sitting on one of the benches. Unlike others, she was not busy playing any of the games. Instead, she was immersed in a thick volume of Fairy Tales.

A few years back, the girl had jumped down from a very high bed, while playing with her younger brother. She was seriously injured, unable to walk for a long time.

Those were miserable days. The little girl had to undergo long sessions of therapies. The journeys to the hospitals seemed endless.

The surgeon had inserted a long metal rod in Lily’s right foot. Now, that foot has become very thin. As a result, she has to wear orthopedic shoes.

“Lily, dear, don’t you want to play with your friends?” A tall, young teacher sat beside the girl.
Tears glistened in Lily’s deep- brown eyes. Her rose-pink lips swelled up:
“Mom, I wanted to play, but they said lame ones can’t play this game.”
“You don’t always have to listen to those rough people, sweetie.” Afrina tried to soothe her daughter.

That day, on their way back home, Lily talked about the Annual sports Competition coming up.
Afrina was well aware of the competition. It was to be held at The Sports Complex. The first, second and third position holders will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. Though the medals will be electroplated, they will be priceless. All throughout the year, the students wait for this competition.

The venue was very well decorated. The gallery was very large, with fine, comfortable seats. The field was huge. Three little stages were set for the awardees.

“Mom, I want to participate in sports.” Lily pleaded
“If you want to, you can participate, sweetheart.”
“It’s a 200 meter running race, I can’t…”
“Remember that fable of the rabbit and the turtle? The turtle was much slower than the rabbit, but still he won the running race. The turtle never gave up.”
“Mom…” Lily was still confused.
“Just run at your own pace, you can do it.” Afrina hugged her daughter.

As soon as the whistle was blown, Lily set off at full speed. It was not easy, but in her mind she kept chanting: “I can do it.”

On the Annual Sports Day, Afrina accompanied Lily to the venue.

Lily looked like an angel in her white tracksuit. Her thick, curly ponytails hung above her shoulders. Her shining eyes reflected excitement.

Lily could not believe her ears when the winners were announced. She had won the gold!

Holding the medal firmly in one hand, she spread her arms in the air. She was standing on the golden stage. The spring wind played with her ponytails. The wide field seemed like her empire.

“I’ve done it Mom, I’ve done it.” Lily shouted, as Afrina wiped away a tear of happiness.

Revised version of Lily:

Ring…! The bell sounded extremely loud. Children ran out of the various classrooms, happily chatting with friends.
“I love recess! Don’t you?” Tania asked her friend Sonia.
“Same here.” Sonia replied.
“So, what shall we play?” Nadia asked.

Hello there,

I'm Falguni, a 21 year old female from a small Asian country called Bangladesh. I've always believed that a pen is stronger than a sword, and I'm in love with writing since junior high. I wrote my first published piece in Bengali, for a kid's magazine when I was 12.

I used to write a series of Adventure stories for a local newspaper about 10 years back. I last saw my name in print in the year 2005. Didn't send anything for publishing since. Didn't need to as I had writing.com as a partner of my passion.

I'm in my sophomore year of university. Still doing foundation courses, and I plan to do my Major in either Accounting or Finance, and Minor in Human Resource Management or English.

Being the youngest of five siblings, I've always recieved a lot of love from my family. I love to take care of my nephew and neice, and they occupy most of my leisure time.

Besides writing, I love to sing, paint and play the keyboard. Music is the happiness, and patience is the key to success.

I've signed up for sunrise to sharpen my skills as a short story writer. I'm still young and need to learn a lot before I can publish my own book, which is a childhood dream.

Hope to make a lot of new friends from sunrise class.
.

DONE FOR: Cobwebby Space Reader Reindeer

Part1.

*Flower1* Very young children are my secondary target for picture books because, adults are the ones who get access to the pictures before children. So, false.

*Flower1* Easy readers are marketed for both young readers and adults because, young readers do read those books, but some adults, for whom English is a second language, may use the Easy readers to improve their basic reading and vocabulary. - False.

*Flower1* There is a huge market for picture books, not only chapter books and novel, so, false.

Part2

He goes to a bird, bird can't help him fly.

goes to a human, human tries to help, but the ox dies.

*Flower2* This will come as an easy reader, for first and second grades.

A short story usually has 2 to 3 characters, and the events take place within one to two days. And the normal word limit is 2000 to 3000 words.

I have two story plans running in my head now. One is about the struggles of a widow mother and her teen age daughter. This I think will make a good story because I think there are many women out there, who can relate to this story.

Second one is about two sisters(twins) who are always fighting among themselves. Teenage readers will enjoy this I think.
Hope you like it, Miss Kim.-lostdreams

WEEK 6 ASSIGNMENT

. WRITE down some occasions in the lives of elementary school children. Maybe getting a new pet ( or losing a pet) , moving to a new school, or loosing their first tooth. WRITE A SHORT STORY ABOUT IT!

Take a FAVORITE FAIRY TALE and rewite it as an EASY READER or Chapter Book.

If you are looking to write for older children…(MIDDLE GRADE NOVELS) or even YOUNG ADULTS…..

Write a list of conflicts, problems or issues you believe would make good storylines

FAVORITE FAIRY TALE

The Bull's House

Once upon a time, there lived a wild bull, a swan, a chicken and a sheep in a faraway jungle. Their biggest enemy was the wolf.

Winter was approaching, and the bull thought it would be wise to build a wooden house to be safe from the cold weather.

"Let's build a house, shall we?" The bull asked his friends one day.

"I don't need a house, my thick coat will save me." Said the proud sheep.

" I have two wings. I can use one as a bedsheet, the other as a blanket. House? No thanks. " Went the swan.

The chicken did not show much interest about the house either.

The bull decided to build his house alone. He also promised not to let any of his friends enter the house no matter what happens.

That winter was really cold, but the bull was comfortable in his new house. He had a very nice fireplace.

One day, the sheep came to the house. "Let me in, bull," he said.
"No, your coat will save you." The bull replied angrily.
"Let me in, or I'll make a hole in the house, the winter wind will attack you then." Replied the clever sheep.
So bull let the sheep in.

Similarly, all the others came to the house and bull let them all in.

One day, the wolf came, and they let him in by mistake.

The clever chicken was relaxing on the roof at that moment. Noticing the wolf, she began chanting:

" I have a knife and a rope
I'll hang you, cut you and eat you."

The chicken had changed her voice a bit,so the wolf thought that a demon might be speaking. Really scared, he went away. From then on, the animal friends lived in their house happily.

What category you are writing for?
2. What is the age group of your target audience?
3. What are the grade levels of your target audience?
4. What is meant by the statement, “Show it don’t tell it.”
5. Do you have a story idea? -If you do, great, please share it!

I'd like to write early readers for ages 6 to 10. Also would try chapter books for the same age group.

Showing, but not telling means writing in such a way so that the reader will not be able to guess the conclusion from beforehand.

Moreover, showing can also mean helping the reader to visualize events instead of just giving plain descriptions.

My story ideas are given in lesson five entry. I'd like to write a story about a caring father and his four year old son. I'd show how the father helps his tiny-tot explore the unknown world through simple, enjoyable experiences.

This is the first lesson of Short story Pizzaz

Teacher: Raven

PROMPT:Write me 250-500 words describing a fictional character of your own invention. I don’t care if they’re male, female, old, young, human, or not. The catch is that you have to show me their attributes instead of telling me about them. I want to know if your character is nice, insecure, angry, etc., as well as fat, old, educated, or whatever. Show me who they are. I won’t be too strict regarding physical characteristics, but unless looks are very important to the character for some reason, you shouldn’t spend more than a couple of sentences on them. I’m looking forward to reading about your characters!

A glance at the beautiful orange rose made her delighted. She knelt down beside the herb, inhaling deeply to absorb the sweet aroma. Her hands were turned into tight fists. Martins whistled on a nearby mango tree.
Softly humming a soothing music, she strolled to the lawn. There, near a citron tree, was a strong wooden birdhouse. As she unbolted the little door, a flock of white pigeons flew out. “Khoum…” They greeted their mistress. Now she opened her fists, sprinkling rice grains all around her beloved pets.
“Jasmine, would you help me set the table dear?” An affectionate voice breezed past her ear.
“Yes Mom. I’m coming in a jiffy” She replied.
The girl began setting the cups and dishes on the dining table. Covering the teapot with an exquisitely embroidered tea-cozy, she placed the glass- coasters beside the dishes.
“When did you learn cross stitching Jasmine?” Her mother asked, pointing at the tea-cozy.
“My crafts teacher taught me, Mom.” She answered.
