It is what it is.
This is my third blog (if you only count the ones I didn't get sick of and delete after only a handful of entries). There has been a lot of water under the bridge since I first started blogging here. I know that "Here" is not the place it used to be, I also know I'm not the person I used to be. That's okay. Maybe there's still some of that old spark left.

Unlike many of my neighbors, I was quite unscathed by Hurricane Sandy. I had to fight crowds in the grocery store ahead of the storm. I spent and evening with the wind blowing and the power shutting off and on. I didn't sleep much that night. The sounds of the howling wind, distant chainsaws, and the pop of transformers blowing kept me up that night. Fortunately, I didn't have work the next day... or the next day. I am back at work now, but the kids are off again tomorrow making it a solid week of school missed.

Many in the county and surrounding counties are spending the evening in cold, dark houses, and I am feeling very fortunate. The only really service interrupts I've had were the cable being out for most of the first day, and my trash not getting picked up this morning.

Meanwhile, hoards of people from New Jersey descended on the area today looking for gas. That can't get any in Jersey because none of the stations have power. So they all came across the river and the lines at the gas station are a throw back to the oil crisis of the late 70's. Police had to break up a fight at the gas station down the road from my house, and the interstate was at a standstill for much of the day. And still... I have a 2 mile commute to and from work and a full tank of gas, so again I am largely unaffected except in a peripheral sort of way.

At work today, people were heating up food in the lunchroom at the end of the day so they could eat a hot meal before returning to a cold home. Lingering in the warmth and light. Not quite ready to leave. It occurs to me that I'm just not used to being one of the "haves" in a community of "have nots." It is a very strange dichotomy.
