Do you have any guilty pleasures when it comes to music...something you think no one else really knows you listen to and enjoy, or are maybe a little afraid to admit? (If this prompt doesn't really appeal to you, you can substitute music for television shows, or movies, or food...any kind of guilty pleasure, I suppose.)

Oh do I have a guilty music pleasure. Please don't tell anyone...I like to listen to Taylor Swift....yes I know....please don't think any less of me... I think I need a Swiftamine....

What's the biggest story in your hometown this weekend? Not where you're living now, but the place you were born (if they're not the same area).

The weather this past month has been a huge news item in Rochester, NY. Not because we are getting snow in September, or torrential rain but because the weather has been outstanding! We have had one of the warmest, sunniest Septembers on record. Rochester, not the sunniest of locations to begin with, has a rather bleak September, usually. This one has been great, with temperature reaching the nineties more than once and hovering above seventy for the month. I just hope the weather stays like this warm and mild and we don't pay for September in December under mountains of snow!

Creation Saturday!

An eighth day has been added to the week, and you've been chosen to decide why. The only caveat is that whatever you decide must be done for at least eight of the extra 24 hours, and what you choose will become permanent for all of humanity until the end of time. What would you do, and why?

Every extra eighth day will be "Play Like a Child Day". There will be no work done, no catching up, no mowing the lawn. Just fun! Do you know why, because no one has time for fun anymore. Everybody is so busy doing whatever that they just don't have time. I will go to the lake tomorrow, but tomorrow I have to do ... I will play board games with you later, but later I am tired... We can go to the zoo on the weekend but on the weekend I need to mow the yard and rake the leaves...

Yup what we need is a mandatory day where we do nothing but have fun. Because it is permanent no one can have an excuse not to do it. Think about it the next time you say you don't have time to play...

On this day in 1492, the crew of the Pinta (one of Christopher Columbus' ships) mistakenly thought that they had spotted land. Your prompt: When has a trip of any sort not turned out as initially expected?

Really no. All the trips that we have taken as a family have been pretty much planned. At least the actual driving part. But, I can think of a funny exploit as my mom and I were traveling to Mt Rushmore. We took the long route (I don't think there is a short route) through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and while were were traveling west on some long lonely road I had to go potty, #1, really Really REALLY bad! I was to the point that when were hit a bump I felt like I was going to pee myself. So, at the first rest stop we pulled over. The bathrooms were pretty far from the parking lot so I went to use the facilities while Mom watched the car. I went to the building and grabbed at the door to shut it, but there was no door. A quick search outside found the door leaning against the wall. Well, I had to go so bad I just did and hoped no one would show up. I got back to the car and my mom said she was going to use the bathroom. I asked how bad she needed to go, she asked why?. I told her there wasn't a door. She said, "Not that bad" and we drove to the next rest stop.

Have you ever had to politely thank someone for something you would've normally found to be unwanted or offensive? How would you handle a situation like that?

I don't think this has ever happened to me, least not that I can remember. I mean I have received gifts that I didn't like but never anything that was offensive. If this did happen I would like to think I would be diplomatic with my response. That is unless it was truly offensive. If it not only offended me but offended anyone who was present at say, a party then I might need to say something.

Have you ever lost yourself in the world of clouds or stars or in any other natural phenomenon? If yes, what did you see? Some random shapes, or some guiding strength?

I love to sit at the edge of Lake Ontario and watch the waves. They could just be little ripples or large boat sinking rollers, either way I sit sit and watch them roll into shore for hours. I do a great deal of heavy thinking gazing out at the blue-green water. I used to do the same thing watching the waves at Lake Erie as well. When I was in my teens I used to write poetry and journal entries in an old orange notebook around the corner from the cottage my family rented. I used to sneak away with a pen and my notebook and sit on the rocks out of sight from my parents and write, for hours. Didn't have wifi and internet back then...

The Pope will be making a trip to the US very soon, and some citizens will be displaced due to his travel safety regimen. Has anything like this happened to you before, being stuck in traffic so a famous person could get by?

Not waiting in traffic but it does remind me of an incident in Washington, DC on my honeymoon. My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Washington, DC from June 28th to July 5th 2008. We flew down from Rochester so we traveled through the city either on the Metro or on foot. One of the days we decided to walk from the National Mall, past the Capitol and on to the White House. We had passed the White House and were returning to the Mall when a few DC police were located at an intersection, ready to block traffic. Papa Panda was a bit ahead of me when the one police officer turned to me (obviously a tourist) and said "I can't say who is going to be passing by but you might want to stick around". I hollered to my husband to come back and we stood on that corner for a bit. The officer closed the road to traffic and a motorcade came down the street and pulled into the driveway of the White House! I have no idea who was in the black government SUV but it was somebody important, it could have been THE MOST POWERFUL person... I can only imagine!

Tell us about a certain memory that is triggered whenever you hear a specific song. Was the song actually playing at that moment, or is it something in the lyrics or the music itself that jogs your memory?

https://youtu.be/h04CH9YZcpI

It never gets old, and I never tire of the memory. Walking into the elementary school gym in sock feet, a pair of tan roller skates dangling from your arm. You sit down, back against the padding on the wall and lace the boots up tight. Harder than hell to get up, a friend skates by and lends a hand. You begin to circle the gym, faster on the inside the slower ones on the edge, grabbing the walls before falling and bruising an already frail ego. The 'dj' spins his vinyl as the smell of rubber and sweat fills the room. One kid gets escorted out, he tripped a smaller kid.

The DJ announces the Hokey Pokey and everybody turns themselves around. Now the moment... From the speakers comes the familiar tune and 'Jack and Diane' begins, "Boy's choice" the DJ calls out and the boys begin to circle the gym. All the girls stand with their backs against the wall, anxiously awaiting their 'beaus'. A familiar smile comes towards you as a hand is extended... you skate hand in hand to a song you will never forget...

This week in Texas, a fourteen-year-old Muslim boy was arrested for bringing a homemade clock to school ...his teachers mistook the item for a bomb. Was this the right move, or did the teachers in question blow this situation too far out of proportion? Are we now erring on the side of too much caution?

I hate to admit this but I am basing this answer purely on what I have seen and heard through social media and national media. We all know that these two sources do not always represent the total truth of a situation. I whole-heartedly believe this incident was blown hugely out of proportion! If the teacher truly believed she had been threatened and that the student had made a bomb what would her first reaction be? I think it would have been to evacuate the school. From what I have seen, and I admit to having not seen it all, the student was arrested or at least taken into custody at the school. Shouldn't the other students have been taken away from the situation? I think this was totally an example of hate mongering and profiling!

Write about a time where the end of something has led to the beginning of something else.

the green leaves dry out and wither
turning to yellows and scarlet
the grasses stop growing lush
as the colder air emerges
leaves litter the ground
squirrels, chipmunks gather
nuts, berries, food for winter
summer has long since left
with the wanderings of children
autumn is upon us now
adults find comfort in this season
with the spices and cold breezes

How'd it get this late so early?

How is it that I am 44 years old and I still am not working in my 'chosen' field?
How is it that I have been working for Sears for 22 years and I am still only jr. mgt?
How is it that I have been looking up freelance writing opportunities and I still haven't sent anything?
How is is that I have only lost 20 lbs because I have been stuck at the same weight for one month?
How is it that I have been living in my MIL basement for 2 years, even though it was temporary?
How? How? How? Why? WHy? WHY!?!

How DID it get this late this early?
How can I be so old when I still feel young?

How, why?

I need to just DO SOMETHING! ANYTHING about any or ALL of these things!

From a humorous perspective, what is the worst thing parents can do to their children?

You must be kidding, this is too easy! The worst thing would be for parents to let their children play outside. I mean really! First, the kids can't play their video games outside. They will be exposed to the sun and boost their Vitamin D, God forbid! They might get dirty, yes dirty! They will come in contact with nature and that may cause them to be exposed to GERMS! Oh heaven forbid! I can't even imagine how my generation survived!

Oh, and these kids playing outside might have to rely on their imaginations! Oh know they should not be allowed a creative thought! So please parents, keep your kids indoors away from all the scary stuff outside....

Snarky enough for you... yup I am think about you skeason

How do you get yourself mentally ready to write a blog entry? Do you have any tips or methods you'd like to share that help you get prepared?

I begin by preparing a pot of Chamomile Tea. I pour it in my English Bone China cup and place that cup on its matching saucer. I turn on some relaxing music and slowly shut my eyes. Sometimes, I meditate and other times I go through my yoga routine. Once I have prepared myself I calmly sit at my laptop and type away. My mind clear of everything but the blog prompt...

WHO DO I THINK I AM KIDDING!!!!???? I am lucky if I take two minutes to myself before I copy and paste the prompt and begin to write. Most of the time I am watching TV and writing at the same time. Did you want us to mentally prepare?
PLEASE!

How do you feel about politicians using music in their campaigns? Ear-catching strategy, or shameless pandering?

I think everybody wants to have a theme song, politicians are no different. As soon as I read this prompt I thought of the Clinton-Gore Campaign and Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop (Thinking about Tomorrow). I can still picture the two of them walking (sauntering) across a stage to that song. But that being said, of all the elections since then, that is the only song I can think of.

This week, cellular company Verizon announced plans to start testing an ultra-fast 5G network sometime in the next year. This network will be designed to handle more internet-connected devices, and will allow for such luxuries like the ability to download a 3-D movie in six seconds. My question: How much to we really need our cell phones to do, now or in 2017 (the target US nationwide rollout date)? Does anyone even use their phone to actually make and take calls anymore? What doesn't your phone do that you wish it would?

Wait, I am supposed to make phone calls on my phone? No! That is ridiculous! I got my husband a smart phone for Christmas and got myself one at the same time. I was only going to use it for emergencies. So far I use it to tell me how much water I have drunk in a day, my yoga routine, and the weather. I check my email and facebook on it along with checking in on Writing.com. I play solitaire and Trivia Crack. I read books and listen to music on it. I have the Wegmans app so I can make out my store list and compare prices without leaving the house. I have two, yes two, meditation apps and my phone has my recipes for my nutri-bullet. I know when the International Space Station is flying overhead and when I can best see meteor showers. I can even watch the ISS on a different app fly over my head as I watch it fly over my head! Do you want to know which constellations are in the sky? Well, I have an app for that, too! I watch TED videos on my phone and I have TWO, yup, TWO NASCAR APPS, because one just isn't enough. Oh, I also have two apps for ringtones as well!

I have yet to come anywhere near the limits on my cellphone for usage (I turn off the data and just use Wifi). The person I text the most is Papa Panda and mostly that is to find out if he wants me to pick up snacks on my way home from work. Nope, I don't need anything more from my phone but I am sure that whatever they come up with I will find a way to use it!

On this day in 1875, "Professor Tidwissel's Burglar Alarm" was featured in the New York Daily Graphic and became the first comic strip to appear in a newspaper. Do you have a favorite comic strip, online comic, or cartoon character? What makes that appealing to you?

A few come to mind...

My favorite comic strip has to be Garfield. I mean who can't relate to a lazy-ass cat who loves lasagna? I have a stuffed animal Garfield, Odie, Nermal, and his girlfriend Cat, whatever her name was. I had all kinds of Garfield school supplies. I can remember I was in sixth grade when Garfield was hot... We all had Garfield stuff. We even brought our stuffed animals to school with us. Sixth grade and I was playing with stuffed animals and I wasn't considered weird? My how times have changed.

As for Cartoon characters it would have to be Wile E. Coyote. That poor guy getting beaten up all the time by the very stuff he tried to use on the roadrunner. You'd think he would have stopped ordering crap from Acme, ya know?

"A man knows better than he hopes." What do you think about that?

hope
/hōp/

noun

1. a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen "he looked through her belongings in the hope of coming across some information" synonyms: aspiration, desire, wish, expectation, ambition, ... more
2. a feeling of trust

Powered by Oxford Dictionaries

I think I would add something to this quote. "A man knows better than he hopes"...but he hopes just the same. We all know that hopes and dreams may not come true. However, we need these hopes to make it through. To not have these dreams would leave us well... hopeless. There is no worse feeling than hopelessness. May none of us ever experience that!

Do you believe the end of the world will come to pass during your lifetime?

I don't think so but I also don't think I care. If the world ended today would any of us even know it? It would just end and that would be the finish of it. We would all die. End of story, no suffering no nothing just boom and we're dead. So I don't know and again I don't care.

Can we have a brighter subject please? You went from sunshine and rainbows yesterday to death and destruction today!
