I have come to an impasse of a sort. I have dropped the tYpO personna for now, though tis true the "T" in tYpO/T.Boilerman does in fact stand for tYpO! Still I am thinking of something more Steampunky . . . I am not sure what I am thinking of, so if you have any ideas what the Boilerman's blog should be titled I would really like to hear it. I wonder if I could actually go 30 days straight or even to the end of the year and make daily entries, (except Sundays absolutely to hard to get much done on a Sunday). Opinions desired, encouraged and welcomed in the comments!!!

I had not been expecting it, yet there it was! It was a surreal moment. Do you love to sign on to WdC and find little surprises in your in-box? I know I do! Often, I am not disappointed! Gotta love all the online friendships and tokens of appreciation and friendship exchanged amongst us. This community is certainly unique in that respect!

Two weeks ago I signed on. It was going to be just another day. First thing I noticed is that Elle - on hiatus had been promoted to Moderator, "Good for her!" I thought to myself. Next thing I noticed was that I had a lot of e-mail, I mean an unusually large amount including at least three merit badges and several C-Notes! Then I saw the e-mail from The StoryMaster and then it hit and I looked up and saw the blue case for the first time!

I still have not completely "settled in" to this promotion, but I am getting there.

What I would really like for you to take away from this is when you send a merit badge, C-note, awardicon or some other surprise to your friend offline I am sure it means a lot to them when they find their surprise! Send a surprise to someone today! Tell 'em the Boilerman sent ya!

Okay, so I find myself blogging challenged. Hmmm . . . mixed message there? I think not. I am blogging challenged as this is my first blog entry in five months. The previous entry to that one was, er, somewhat longer. Well you can see where this is leading, right?

Okay, so somebody is going around WdC challenging folks to blogs . . . (thanks Elle - on hiatus for challenging me!). Anyway it's not really such a bad idea, is it?

Blogging, like any other writing activity requires discipline to keep it up. Discipline on a daily basis is really a good idea. How much time would it take us to complete a single review in a day? As little as 30 minutes, and probably as much as the amount of detail you wish to engage in.

During my time on WdC, albeit about 8 years now, I have found that most things that are posted are well received. In fact, I can count on one hand the times something I have posted has not been well received. Either way, this entry is mostly about discipline, specifically self-discipline. Yes I am preaching to myself at this moment of time.

Today being Three Word Thursday people are posting three words about time. Mine was "passes by quickly." Yes it passes by all too quickly to say the least. We simply do not have enough of it to waste.

At this point, I must ask myself am I blogging, or am I merely ranting? Well there is, no doubt, a difference. I suppose the difference is the nature and quality of the subject matter.

So this is where I leave you, does this qualify as blogging, or is it merely a rant?

My stated purpose upon my return was to concentrate on my own writing as a priority. To be sure, I have done some reviewing since my return. I am excited about that. Today I took an adventure into the Steampunk world. Something said somewhere had caused me to consider a battle train. This is not entirely unexpected being a navy veteran and having served on-board one of the nation's most famous battleships the USS Missouri BB-63. Regardless I came up with the idea to open a book in my portfolio for Steampunk Flash Fiction. I have created the first entry "Invalid Entry. If you have a few minutes I hope this will entertain you!

Well every time I am on WdC I note that it has been 3 years since I made an entry. I suppose it is simply a lack of discipline on my part. I mean, usually when I am on WdC anyway I am supposed to be working (I am an independent contractor basically typing at home). This is my procrastination station.

New subject. I have been gone from WdC for a while but I have now returned. I guess I do have a tendency to throw myself into this site. I get going running and judging contests, reviewing, donating, awarding, and all the other activities that go into making this community great. BUT I realize that I have a tendency to perhaps take too much on. The result is I get no writing of my own done. I intend to correct this situation. I am looking for balance this time. I am going to make my own writing a higher priority. If you visit my port you will find lots of stuff in it but since my one short story about the only things I have written are a few flash fiction pieces and something like but not quite poetry.

The moral of the story is in all your busy-ness take time for your own writing. That's what I am going to do!

Just wanted my friends to know that after a very long time I have returned to WDC and I am, I hope, making my presence felt. Over the past several months I have gone through a number of lifestyle changes. I was sent to visit a cardiologist and was told that if I did not immediately lose 50-75 pounds my heart and lungs would fail and that would sooner rather than later. To date I have lost 82 pounds and now weigh in at less than 200 pounds.

I have also made some decisions to finally buckle down and get serious about two things, my writing, and being a part of the WDC family. I have missed those who I have called my friend and I look forward to making many, many new friends as well!

You know, today I read a survey that brought into question the quality of the resource that is Writing.com. To be sure it is a resource but it's value is what you make it. If you write, read and review regularly then your writing will also be reviewed.

Sure it is easy to be distracted by all of the activity, but that is what community is about.

Reach out to someone on WDC today and let them know you care!

The world turns on seeming insignficance. Sure you and I are one of billions of people on the planet and yes the fund of human knowledge doubles every two years and yes it is easy to be overwhelmed when considering these facts.

Please consider that some insignificant act you do may seem insignificant at the time but for the other people involved it may be carried with them for the rest of their life whether for the good or bad.

Any random act of kindness can be acknowledged by the receiver as that one positive reason that held their life together at a crucial moment. Perhaps because you did your job in a better than average manner whether as a lowly custodian at a local school or as insignificant as a crossing-guard you extended friendship to a child who will carry that friendship with them. They may not even remember your name but they will carry your kindness within them and pass it on in time.

There is no insignificance, everything matters, everyone matters. Love and truth overcome all obstacles.

Always do good when it is in your hand to do so. WDC is about people. It's about people's dreams and achieving goals. A circus is about people, making them smile and showing them a good time. Clowns are to make people laugh and to touch their hearts, this is my goal and aim at WDC. I am not the most prolific author, my portfolio is fairly small and tends to collect more signatures than anything. My life has been blessed and I have set out to bless others through my clowning and through being able to help out where I can around WDC.

You know, a ribbon, a merit badge or a c-note does not cost much and they can touch people in such a special way. You know it is true that the more you can give, you will receive so much more. This is also true around WDC. Put others first, review their work, send 'em a ribbon or merit badge if they touch you in some special way. Give to others, put them first. In the long run the rewards are so much greater and the blessings will be in friendships.

Have a happy October!

Like everything else, this can wait a little while. I just keep doing that. Wow, the time flies by!

I wanted to bring a word about clowning. Since the title Typo's Circus offers certain promises I thought I would share a little bit.

First off, one is not necessarily born to clowning. One stumbles into clowning much as one stumbles into writing. It is something that you really have to want to do and have to work at to achieve.

To become a clown you have to learn make-up and costuming at the very beginning and the make-up is definitely learned by trial and error. Every clown's face is different, we each have a unique look our own. You may borrow elements from other clowns but the end product must be original.

Similarly costuming is not total chaos. The colors may clash but the costume as a whole must present itself nicely. Mine is a combination of primary colors, red, yellow and blue.

Big shoes are loads of fun.

About the nose. No it does NOT squeak. It is attached in various ways. I have used latex nose glue. I have used a form of double stick tape but the best I have found is nose putty. It's similar in consistency and appearance to Silly Putty. The difference is that it gets really sticky when activiated by body heat. So a thin layer inside the nose and it adheres nicely.

Wigs: I use a red Silly Boy when I use a wig. I quit using a wig last year because it gets very hot here in the summer and I overheated twice. No one has ever said I do not look like a real clown (more on that in a minute) or anything. The only time they did was when I tried some of that red-spray in my hair.

When a child mentions: "You're not a real clown, are you?" what they actually mean is that they had some sort of expectation that you did not meet. A lot of clowns respond with "Well, you're not a real kid, are you?" This is not only rude but they are missing an opportunity to have a valuable constructive criticism. I respond to that with, "well of course, I'm a real clown, why did you ask?" The the child tells me what is on his or her mind. I don't get this much any more after five years of clowining.

Lastly, a true clown will never make someone else (excluding other clowns) the but of a joke. The clown is always to be the but of the gag. This is good advice for us all in our daily lives. How much better the world would be.

Live, love and laugh!
