Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly had a dream in the summer of 1816 that later became the story for Frankenstein. Have you ever said, done, or written something that you say in a dream? If so, what was it and how did you use it? If not, what kind of creation do you think you could come up with in a dream and why? I mostly don't remember my dreams. I do remember one night having to get out of bed at 5 in the morning to write 2 pieces on abortion (one a song, the other a story), and after I did that, I returned to sleep and had the deepest sleep I've ever had. Whether it was a dream that started the writing, I cannot be sure, but it's as close as I've been to being inspired by a dream. Oh wait I do remember another time that I was on a trip with a campus mission group (Baptist Student Union or BSU), and I was asleep dreaming and I was awakened to write a little piece that I later read to the group when they were awake. It was literally decades ago when I was in college (Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas). I still don't remember the dream that sparked the awakening, but I do know it was inspired by the dream. Other than that, I think that's the only time. We Are His Children is the name of the piece I wrote and if I can find it amid all the journals I have, I'll put it up here one day. Thx for bringing back a good memory from my college days with this prompt. |
