| Prompt: Do you think our society has gotten too politically correct? Is there even such a thing as being too politically correct? Share your opinions on this topic. I remember a time when PC, just referred to the computer you were using. Man in his infinite wisdom has gathered in a corner and decided they were going to control speech and boom we have political correctness. Being politically correct has gone too far. It is now being used as a means of finding one more thing to be offended by and adding it to the list of PC no-nos. The concept is now hindering so many areas of our lives that no matter where you are, you see the result of "PC mania". Even football teams are being assailed to change their names to a more generic term. I grew up watching the classic pig skin battles between the Cowboys and the Redskins; sometimes the Cowboy's won and sometimes the Redskins won. The players on each team never even considered that one day their names would become offensive to anyone. It is merely a name of two teams who have had a rivalry for decades and who still show good sportsmanship and the end of every game. It's the game of football that they love and no one worried about whether anyone else would be offended by playing Cowboys and Indians on the grid-iron. Do children even play Cowboys and Indians anymore? Have their parents stopped buying cap guns and bow and arrow sets? We don't have children; nor is my wife able to with all of her medical maladies. This inquiring mind wants to know. I don't think the original intention of PC was to hamstring people to the point that they are afraid of speaking their minds, for fear of offending someone or stepping on the toes of this group or that. Here is a definition of PC. Description of the practice of using speech that conforms to liberal or radical opinion by avoiding language which might cause offence to or disadvantage social minorities.1 If you look at this definition you see that it is legalese. It's politically born and yet it is now spreading it's tendrils into the lives of the citizens who once had fun playing games and are now afraid of getting chastised for this or that from political groups who are stretching the definition to their advantage. When I say PC, ninety-nine percent of the time I'm talking about my computer. It's the one percent that started the PC movement who is mucking things up. Oh wait mucking is too wimpy a word; however I will not print the colorful language word that so many people throw around. Political correctness will eventually paint itself into a corner and collapse on itself, because it is becoming political weaponry and not a tool to help people think before they speak or act. You are important to God; your loved ones; the WdC and Copenator out! P.S. If you are offended by me calling you "beloved", I cannot do a thing about it, because the word "beloved" comes from my heart and that's the truth.
