Just lovely! Kinda sideways, but it reminded me of my old Buick that I inherited when my grandfather passed away. No gloves, but little remnants of his pipe tobacco everywhere. Completely different sentiment, I know, but the poem still too me there while it was also bringing me along with the poet. I love it when reading poetry is like that!

I love the line, "where his growth scared him."

I'm also glad to be introduced to more female poets. I feel like I'm not familiar with enough of them.

I stumbled on the same line. For me, it's because it wasn't the same voice as what I'd perceived up to that point.

Gorgeous poem, though.

I am loving this activity for getting me to articulate why the poems that stick with me do stick with me, but I'm not experiencing any surprises in my personal preferences...yet.

Huffington Post article on Thirteen thoughts on Poetry.

This in particular made me think:

"A form will survive if it's dynamic, and if its practitioners are dynamic. It will remain relevant if its practitioners are listening for the ways in which they are needed. If a poet makes himself available to his time, and if he volunteers his service to his time, he will be of use, and if he is of use, he will find satisfaction."

End of Semester CRUNCH

End of semester Crunch Time!

As far as school goes - I have a presentation on 5 poems by Allison Hedge Coke

and a portfolio of ten poems due on Monday, along with 16 poems to workshop for Wed & Friday! AGH!

Plus a daughter graduating from college in a couple weeks, (and hopefully getting a job, and possibly moving), a second daughter buying a house and moving, a third daughter going to prom and generally driving me crazy.

Oh yeah - and we're getting a new roof put on due to hail damage.

So - my presence and availability is about zero for the next three weeks.

I don't think I'm going to get to participate in the Iowa MOOC. Just not enough time!
