Finding well-being through travel and books.

Hello and welcome!

I have two great passions in life.

The first one is travel. After a series of life-changing events, my husband and I decided to spend the kids’ inheritance and see as much of the world as possible (I’m still bitter about Damascus). Our bible? A Thousand Places to See Before You Die. Please join us on our adventures seeing new places, meeting fascinating people and trying new, exciting, and sometimes just plain weird, food.

My second great passion is books. Reading expands my interior world in the same way travel expands my external one. And, books are a great way to armchair travel - not only through distance but through time as well. My tastes are eclectic, so we’ll be looking at a wide range of writing in a possibly haphazard fashion. Come along for the ride!

Wow, that sounds pretty frightening, just walking across a street filled with scooters and motorcycles. Kind of reminds me of the time I went to China. Cars everywhere, and lots of them. They were all going pretty fast as well, to the point where I was scared to cross the road. Although I do think that it's nice how everybody in Tet is pretty conscious of other people and obeying the rules, instead of just rushing everywhere.

Wow, the people are really dedicated Ho Chi Minh. I don't ever think that I'd be able to voluntarily wake up at 6:00am and wait 2.5 hours in line just so that I could see a body, holy or not. But that's just me. Did you get to see the body? It seems very interesting. I feel kind of bad for Ho Chi Minh, since even after all he did for his country, he never even got his dying wish of being cremated. Although I suppose that if he saw the joy his preserved body brings people, he'd think that preservation was just as good a choice as cremation.

I don't know, I found this kind of funny. It mostly because of how you were caught once but was let go, then several years later, was caught again in the same place. Although I suppose the whole, getting fined and possibly getting your license suspended wasn't so hilarious. I hope your licence wasn't actually suspended. When I was reading, at first, I thought it was going to be the same officer who pulled you over the first time. I guess in hindsight, even if it was, he might not recognize you, or you him. I hope you enjoyed Banff. I've heard about how it was very nice with beautiful scenery, but I haven't had a chance to go myself.

If you get a chance to visit Coimbra or Sintra in Portugal please give it hugs from me. That's where I lived and I miss it terribly. Enjoy!!!!

The Lady and the Tiger

“Don’t put your face near the tiger’s, stay behind it,” we were instructed just before entering the tiger’s cage. My last thought, before the white noise of panic filled my brain was, “What if the tiger is putting its face near mine!”

Sure, these tigers are hand reared from birth. Sure, they are used to people, need people to survive and thrive on affection. But, knowing that the fine beast was not drugged or tranquilized in any way, and faced with the business end of a tiger not three feet from my face, I devolved into a state of blithering incompetence. What the hell was I thinking!
