Just a few thoughts, rants & observations have popped into my head as I go about my life
Hi people of WDC land ....I must first tell you why I am here, not because you necessarily want, or need to know ....but because I feel the need to tell you. And you will soon learn that when I feel the need to say something, say something I will. Anyway, I digress ....I joined this site initially because I love poetry and, partly inspired by my friend ⭐️Jellyfish⭐️ , I was determined to try my hand at writing myself. I was directed to this site and managed to write one or two average items of verse. I have only been on the site briefly but have come to love the place and get a lot out of readng some of the inspirational work on the site.

Now, the only problem I have encountered is that I have realised my natural talents do not lie with writing poetic verse of any type despite being quite happy with a couple of my early efforts. However, it has been said on more than one occasion that I seem to have a lot to say whether it be to rant about the state of the politics in the UK or some other such current affairs item, or just to make random observations on the state of the world or even situations in my life. I have therefore decided to make my first attempt at writing a blog. The only potential drawback to this is to ensure that I actually keep it updated ....that I guess is the challenge I make to myself.

So people, think of this as an introduction ...I hope to add pages to this over time and with a bit of luck one or two of you may find my words mildly interesting. Nothing I write will be intentionally offensive but I will speak with honesty. Any comments will be welcomed.

So, be back soon and happy writing *Wink*

What Price Democracy?
June 27, 2016 at 3:44pm
On 23rd June 2016, the people of the UK voted by a small majority to leave the EU. Before I proceed to give my opinion on this monumental decision, I should add that in recent years, I have not been a big advocate of the EU and ever since the referendum date was announced I was firmly on the fence. However, I do believe this helped me to make a genuine decision having considered all eventualities, or at least as many as I could think of. In the end I found myself firmly in the REMAIN camp ha... The Real Truth
May 1, 2016 at 5:01am
On 15th April 1989 I was a 21 year old football fanatic. My Saturday afternoons tended to be spent either watching my own team Charlton Athletic or listening to the regular football show on BBC Radio 2, no wall to wall television in those days. Football was my life and to a certain extent it still is. That day in April, a match took place which changed everything and affected many people’s lives for years to come. Liverpool were to play Nottingham Forest in an FA Cup Semi final but the matc... [Read more]
The Starman has gone ...but the music will live on
January 11, 2016 at 2:22pm
It must have been around 7:30 when I was woken up this morning by what sounded like a radio interview. As I gradually came to, though still somewhat half asleep, I realised it was the instantly recognisable voice of Eamon Holmes and was probably Sky News I was listening to. I tend to find that I can't fall asleep unless the TV is on in the background and it's invariably The News that I will have on last thing at night. Anyway, the interviewee was probably being asked questions about D... [Read more]
To Bomb Or Not To Bomb That Is The Question
December 1, 2015 at 2:44pm
The background to this for those not familiar with British politics is that David Cameron, our slimy toad of a prime minister, is using Paris to attempt to push through his long held belief that we should wage a bombing campaign against Daish in Syria. It does seem as if he is going to get his wish as the majority of the shadow cabinet support a bombing campaign. I really do not see how any such campaign of bombing will help bring down this evil organisation. Bombing is indiscriminate and the... [Read more]
Pray for the World
November 15, 2015 at 7:57am
At the risk of appearing to have only one topic of conversation in my recent blog entries, I can't let the recent Paris attacks and the aftermath go by without comment. Firstly of course we all send our prayers and love to those involved and to the people of Paris who are feeling under attack at the moment. The shock and outpouring of solidarity mirrors that of the London attacks in 2005 and the WTC attacks in 2001 and understandably to an extent as it becomes clear that no amount of secu... [Read more]
Refugees Welcome?
November 11, 2015 at 3:17pm
So yesterday as I went to lunch, there was some sort of rally going on in the main square in the city. Turns out it was a campaign that my city of Portsmouth should accept more refugees, the local councillor having stated that they don't want to be allocated as an English city taking in refugees. Well, I've got mixed feelings on this. Portsmouth is the most densely populated city in Europe and exactly where these people are going to live is pretty much beyond me, but at the same time tha... Terror in Sharm
November 5, 2015 at 2:16pm
Well it's been a while but after yet another terrorist attack involving holidaymakers (a Russian plane this time), I felt I needed to say a few words. I kind of had mixed feelings when the British government immediately suspended flights to and from Sharm El Sheikh. I mean Sharm itself is by all accounts a very safe resort and my immediate thought was that here was the British government over-reacting again and yet another victory for terrorists looking to disrupt the holidays of decent law ... Goodbye Venus
July 28, 2015 at 1:54pm
So after about nine months with no activity on my blog, I thought I'd just say a few words about my gorgeous cat. In fact I think my last entry was about the death of a family member so I must seem a bit morbid but I guess its sometimes therapeutic to get a few words down. When I joined WDC just over a year ago, one of my first items was a poem about my cat Venus, . Sadly she passed away on Thursday night whilst I was on a weekend trip away. Venus was a very special cat with a unique... [Read more]
The Inquest
October 26, 2014 at 5:12pm
Well ...been back at work a couple of weeks now ....holiday long since gone. And I'm sitting here at my desk needing to get some words down ...obviously I should be working but if I dont get my feelings out I'll go mad. Anyway, tomorrow, is the first part of the inquest into my dad's death. He died in June for those who dont know. To be honest, we dont need an inquest ...we know he was killed by the hospital and responsibility and negligence lies firmly with the surgeon who perfor... [Read more]
A few words from Croatia
September 29, 2014 at 3:21am
Hi people ......just popping in to briefly say hi from Croatia where I am sharing a wonderful, peaceful and relaxing holiday with my friend . We deliberately wanted somewhere 'far from the maddening crowd' as it were and having booked the cheapest of hotels in a small town off the beaten track, I wasn't sure what to expect although after a difficult last few months, getting away was really all that mattered. Anyway as it happened, the hotel is fine and in a perfect location right o... [Read more]
Scotland - Should I Stay Or Should I go, the aftermath
September 21, 2014 at 2:33pm
So, a few days after Scotland's referendum I just thought I'd add my own thoughts on something I feel very passionate about. As most should know, the people of Scotland eventually voted to stay as part of the UK after a long running campaign full of bitterness and antagonism. Of course if you believe the media and political 'experts' then you'll think it was all about passion and was otherwise a friendly debate full of reasoned opinion on both sides. Of course, we know bet... [Read more]
Legal Racism?
September 10, 2014 at 1:34pm
well its been a little while since my last entry mainly due to work, a busy social life & general procrastination. However, I have felt the need to put pen to paper metaphorically speaking about something that happened at the weekend. Now many who know me will understand that I have strong opinions where politics are concerned but mainly my views are quite mainstream. The situation I found myself in on Sunday was no different. I had been into town to do a bit of clothes shopping for my impend... [Read more]
Dealing with Grief
August 18, 2014 at 9:11am
I was going to post this on Facebook and then thought maybe people wouldn't want to read it. I mean I'm not after sympathy or anything and don't like the 'woe is me' type statuses you get. But when my dad died in June, I think I probably seemed to most people to move on quite quickly. Anyway none on here knows me in the real world so maybe its a bit easier to speak freely. The truth is, while many people have told me I'm dealing with the death of my dad really well, th... [Read more]
Suicide - Is it really selfish?
August 17, 2014 at 7:06pm
Much has been said about Robin Williams in the last few days especially with regard to the 'moral' issue of taking one's own life. I find it quite incomprehensible in this day and age that still some ignorant idiots continue to label the suicidal act as selfish and morally wrong. Facebook was full of phrases like 'I don't understand how someone could be so selfish to the people they care about' ...etc, etc. My answer continues to be, if you don't understand bloody tak... A British Disease
July 22, 2014 at 12:47pm
To what British disease am I referring? Yep the weather .....and our seeming need to talk about it all the time. Well, this my first blog entry may be short and may not be the humdinger you've all been eagerly waiting for, but after a night in a local pub last night where I must have said 'bloody hot innit' at least a dozen times and spent most of the evening flicking cold water over my personage, we have to ask ourselves why is it that us Brits spend year after year moaning about th...
