A prelude to my NaNoWriMo novel, the story of the Wellestrian civil war. |

Lady Karina Moselberg was born in 762 After Foundation, and is the younger child of Lord Victor Moselberg. The Moselberg family hold a vast amount of land in the southern reaches of the fictional country called "Wellestria". Wellestria is ruled by High King Frederick XII., often called "The Monarch" or "The Tyrant". 7 years before the first revolution in Krona (which happened 774 A.F.) he became the Patriarch of the Lord's church, and founded the Wellestrian inquisition. The 7 years between the revolution and his ascension are often called the "7 years of terror". Directly under the High King is the Wellestrian "House of Nobles". The country is divided into counties (population under 50 000), states (population over 50 000) and home states (county or state home to a family that's part of the House of Nobles). Most of the families were founded in 1 A.F., after the battle of Krona Minor, at which Frederick the Great defeated the united armies of the tribes that inhabited Wellestria. Only 27 soldiers survived the bloodbath, each of them were given a home state to rule over. The remaining land was divided into counties, and their population could vote for a family to rule them. Krona was an exception, it could also vote for an independent governor. Frederick the Great stated that if a county would reach the population of Krona (Krona's population in 1 A.F. was around 50 000), it would have the same privileges, being eligible to elect an independent governor. During his terror reign, Frederick XII. used the inquisition to cast numerous families into exile, or even to wipe out some. He intended to claim all the counties for his family (the Woralbergs). This angered the neighboring lands, and eventually led to the revolution of 774 A.F. supported by the freshly formed Southern Empire and the Eastern Empire. This novella tells the story of Karina, her unusual childhood and adolescent years through the civil wars, how a spoiled noblewomen became an idol, a heroine followed by hundred-thousands of people. And of course, how the responsibility shaped her already flawed personality. |
