There's a diner that's just arrived in town. Pie's good. People are mighty peculiar.
She was a pink and green tiled beauty straight out of the fifties.  As you walked up the front bricked steps and looked in, you could see 6 rolling seats on either side of the waitresses command central.  There was leg room for a wide-shouldered trucker to sit next to a friend if he decided he wanted the counter top view.  Six sets of comfortably placed booths were placed in front of the windows.  That way you could see who was coming or going.  Always a good idea if you thought to keep your conversations private.  A door to the left of the entry way opened into another dining area that could comfortably seat 24 more parties.  A jukebox- a real jukebox stood next to the cashier’s stand waiting for quarters as offerings to her temple of music. This jukebox only gave you the best tunes from the fifties and sixties.

Jim Jamison looked out of the diner at the old man and the young woman arguing with each other.  He raised his eyebrows at his new boss and said. “They’ll be in soon.  Ezra likes his coffee hot and fresh. Cassie needs a job.  You’d be smart to hire her Hope.  She’s sassy and she’ll pull in the truckers.  That’ll keep you in business while the town decides if they want you to stay or not.”

Hope Alton pushed up her horn rimmed glasses and tapped her foot.  “N-now you see here, I hired you to help me clean the place and b-be my b-backup n-not p-push me around. M-maybe I’ll d-do my own waitressing until I catch on.” She pulled at her chestnut colored hair and tried her best to look stern.  She sighed silently.  Her cook wasn't buying that a 30 year old woman didn't need his advise.

“Lady, you

cook like a dream.  Your desserts are heaven on a fork.  But you can’t do it all and you need to hire people who are gonna love you and help you make your dream come true. Listen to me.  Until you can get your courage straightened out a little more, you don’t need to have that stammer up for grabs.  You can smile mysteriously and let Cassie help you build your business.”  He glanced out.  “You make up your mind.  I’ve got the grill all prepped and ready to make some pancakes.”
