Long ago there was the Rending. The end of a war that had raged for centuries. It had begun when mages tried to raise themselves up to the heavens as Gods, tried to rule over all men. Only instead of ruling the world, they nearly destroyed it. The Rending, a spell gone wrong, tore holes called fissures in the fabric of the world. Holes that, when they appear, devour anything in their path, sending everything into the abyss beyond--the nothingness on the other side of the veil between worlds. Ellia's family, her entire village, disappeared into a fissure four years ago. Since then she's been shuffled between positions, serving those with too much money. But when a soldier comes for her in the dead of night on the back of a dragon, Ellia's entire world will change once again. Thrust into a position she doesn't want and is ill equipped to handle, Ellia must find those responsible for the Rending and stop them before things get worse.
