A book of my thoughts, which may or may not actually be written at midnight.
** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

Hi! I'm Amber, sometimes known as MissTique. This is my book of things that happen in my brain.

Thanks so much to the WDC Angel Army for the upgraded membership! *Bigsmile*

Someone posted this on the newsfeed a while back, and I thought it was a good thing to keep in mind:

"Write a short story every week. It's not possible to write 52 bad short stories in a row." - Ray Bradbury

Oh look! I've been neglecting my blog! I guess I should probably... fix that, you know? Okay. Here goes a prompt.

Blog City Prompt: "One's enjoyment is doubled when one can share it with a friend." Marie Antoinette What things do you enjoy sharing with a friend?

With friends? Books, music, any good jokes I've heard recently, any so-bad-they're good jokes I've heard recently. A laugh is always a good thing to share with a friend.

With a best friend, on the other hand? Everything. And I do mean everything. I have exactly one best friend in the entire world, and I'm not sure if we even have any secrets between ourselves anymore. Seriously. We live pretty far apart, so instead of being around each other and hanging out (like normal teenagers), we share stories and thoughts and ideas and jokes and, well, everything. It's nice.

BCoF Prompt: When you write a fiction story do you use incidents from you own life in order to get closure?

Actually, no, not really. I've written maybe one or two flash pieces based on experiences I've had, but for the most part, my stories are inspired by either prompts, or by these strange ideas that pop into my head and won't leave me the heck alone until I write them. *Laugh* I think I'll start writing stuff based on my experiences when I start doing things that are interesting enough to write about. It'll happen one day, you know.

Life Stuff: So, I have come down with a cold, and I swear I have never felt so horrible in my life. I will never take breathing for granted again. Or restful sleep. Hey, at least I have lots of time to write, now that I'm only sleeping a couple hours a night. *Pthb*

Um, what else? I've recently discovered the joy that is Hamilton. I rediscovered the fact that I don't like tea. Lemon-lime Gatorade is by far the better drink. *Rolling* I still can't draw to save my life, and I still love doing it anyway.

I lost my train of thought. I'm tired. Forgive me. {e:sarcasm} *RollEyes*

That's all. G'day and g'night, lads, lasses, and everyone in between.

Day 29 Prompt: Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave.

My husband wanted to join the military. I couldn’t believe it when he told me.

"I want to go fight for the country," he'd said "I want to be a soldier."

I came up with every excuse in the book. "But you'll be away so long. I'll miss you." And "But it doesn't even pay that well. You'll be doing all that hard work for almost nothing!" And "But the training will be difficult, and the conditions in the field will be terrible, and baby, you could die out there."

He took my hand hand, looked me in the eye, and said, "I know. Many people have died. I want to fight anyway. Not because it's easy. Because it's right."

The next day, he signed up for the army. A week after that, he started basic training. Eighteen months later, my husband was killed in battle. He was always such a brave man.

Day 30 Prompt: It is a strange thing, but when you are dreading something, and would give anything to slow down time, it has a disobliging habit of speeding up.

Dreadful.

Day 28 Prompt: If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.

I have the best boss in the world. He is nice, he is supportive, he is lenient. He’s basically the employees’ best friend. I always wondered why he treats us so well, when he has the power to act more or less however he wants. So one day, I ask him about it.

“Sir? I had a question for you, if you’ve got a few minutes.”

He smiles at me, like I’d just paid him some great compliment. "Of course, Sherry, I always have time for you."

"So, you know how sometimes people have superiors who are just absolutely awful? Those higher-ups that really abuse their power over their employees?" I know it must sound like an accusation, but the man just nods as though listening to a fascinating story. "Well, I was wondering: why aren't you like that? You have the authority. Why don't you use it fully?"

He considers this for a while. "Sherry, if you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals."

I wait for him to explain what he just said, maybe give some context or something, but he seems to be done talking. "Er, right. Thank you, Sir." I turn around, baffled, and leave the office.

Day 27 Prompt: It’d take all the fun out of life.

Two weeks ago, I confided in my best friend, Claire. “I am terrified of water,” I’d told her. She didn’t take this as a confession, as I’d hoped, but as something to fix. Which is why now, two weeks later, Claire has brought me to the community pool. What’s worse is that she actually expects me to get in it.

“Come on, jump in! Don’t be afraid! Fear takes all the fun out of life, you know!”

Easy for her to say. She isn’t the one with a crazy irrational fear of water.

“No, I’m good, actually. I don’t know why I let you talk me into coming here, but I think I'll be leaving now.” I wrap a towel around myself, even though I’m completely dry, and head for the locker rooms.

"Wait!" she calls out from the pool. I can hear her climbing out and splashing water all over the floor. I shudder slightly. "I know it freaks you out, but you gotta try it. You can't let your fear control you. Just stick your feet in or something, if you don't want to get in all the way. Please? For me?"

I stand completely still. Claire is the queen of "Please? For me?" It gets me every time.

"Fine. Just my feet, though, and if you pull me in, I'll never forgive you." She doesn't say anything, so I approach. I sit by the edge of the pool, and everything is quiet except for my heart pounding in my ears. One foot goes in, and I have to readjust my breathing to a semi-normal pace. The other foot follows. Breathe. This is terrifying and exhilarating.

After a few minutes, I back away from the water. Claire looks up at me with a brilliant grin. "Well? How was it?"

I manage weak smile of my own. "Amazing. And I'm never doing it again."

It's getting late. Can you tell? *Rolling*

Day 25 Prompt: It was nearing midnight and the Prime Minister was sitting along in his office, reading a long memo that was slipping through his brain without leaving the slightest trace of meaning behind.

Therefore and henceforth, these solemn declarations are made in unity and… Hmm. That didn’t make any sense. He read the line again.

Herein lies a declaration of sovereignty over the small town of England… Town? England was a country, not a town. He would know. He was the Prime Minister. Deciding to try once more to make sense of the thing, he started reading from the beginning.

The nation of England will henceforth be the supreme ruler of all of England… Giving it up as a bad job, he stored the document in his desk. He spent the next few minutes staring at the strange portrait hanging on the opposite wall, and thinking about his new position as the PM. His predecessor had given him a pitying sort of look before leaving the office, and for the life of him, he couldn't figure out why.

Just then, the fire in the fireplace turned green, and he jumped from his chair, startled. When a man walked through the fire, calm as you please, the Prime Minister was quite sure he'd die from shock. And when the man explained to him all about magic, and wizards, and Lord Vadermort, or something, he wondered whether he wouldn't have been better off as a farmer or maybe a traveler. He'd heard Jamaica was nice this time of year.

After the wizard man left, the Prime Minister sat back in his chair behind his desk. He thought for a while on the man's words, then decided he must've imagined it all. Too much stress. The portrait on the wall sneezed. Too much whiskey, maybe.

The monster released.
Students are in danger
Of Salazar’s beast.
Now listen close, children,
Be cautious, take care.
Sleep with eyes open,
Enemies of the heir.

Day 22 Prompt: It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.

“What are you doing, Nathan?” I asked, though it was clear to me what was happening: my friend was trying to break into someone’s house.

“What’s it look like? I’m trying to get into this place. Know the guy that lives here? Old guy? Goes by “Johnson”, I think. I heard from one of the higher-ups the this dude’s rich. He’s got tons of cash, apparently, and he just leaves it lying around. I was just gonna pop in, grab a few hundred bucks, and get the hell out. What d’ya think?” He grinned stupidly at me, and I gave him an incredulous look.

“What do I think? I think you’ve lost your mind. Or your moral compass, either one. You do hear yourself, don’t you? You’re going to break into an old man’s house and steal his money. How sick is that?”

“Oh, don’t tell me you’ve gone all goody two shoes on me. I doubt he’ll even miss the cash. I’m not gonna take all of it. Now come on, you gonna help me get this door open, or do I gotta do it myself?”

"No, I'm not going to help you, Nathan. You can't just do something like that. I know you. You're definitely better than this. I won't help you, and I won't let you do this." I took a deep breath. The moral high ground isn't always the easiest place to be.

"You gonna stop me?" It was clearly a challenge. I accepted.

"Yeah. Mister Johnson never did anything to you, so just... just back off, alright?"

He seemed surprised, and slightly annoyed. After staring at me for a while, he rolled his eyes and huffed. "Fine. Whatever. I'll leave the old guy alone. Just get outta here, Jimmy. I'll see you in class."

"Cool. See ya then."

Day 21 Prompt: Bless them, they’ll go to any lengths to ignore magic, even if it’s staring them in the face.

Clearly nothing
Out of the ordinary.
Interesting?
Not really.
Creative
Illusions, that’s all.
Deny its
Existence, if it’s
Not natural.
Chance
Encounters, to put it
Simply.
