When the Veil thins and the Mist curls, Unseelie will come to eat your soul.
[Introduction]
"My dear children, the Faery World is full of wonderful creatures, creatures that bring light and happiness. Never fear the Fae. They are your guides through nature." The old woman sounded like she was dreaming, and the children sitting around her, crossed legs bumping, giggled. The park was in full bloom, and the smell of flowers, grass, dirt was strong and slightly intoxicating.

"Now, shall we have a story then?" Her lilting voice was so strange that the children were immediately transfixed. Her Irish roots were leaking out in her excitement and joy.

"Listen well. The Seelie Court is in session. These bright Fae bring Spring and dance through Summer. The Seelie Queen is the brightest of all Fae. She loves laughter and warmth. She loves to dance among us and listen to our happiness." A breeze rustled her gray hair. "Do you feel that, children? They are here now, dancing, laughing."

The children giggled again and few of them jumped up and ran after the flower petals that spun on the wind. More followed, and soon only one child remained. She looked troubled.

"Aunt Bess, why didn't you tell them about the Unseelie Court?"

"Hush, child," the woman's voice was stern, in deep contrast to the serene joy moments before. "The less your classmates know, the safer they will be. We will not speak of the Unseelie Court. It is Spring, and their reign is done."

The little girl sniffed, and the old woman smiled. "Don't be bitter Meghan. There is a need for balance, always a need for balance. Seelie-Unseelie. Light-dark. They won't know the truth-You will. It's the way it must be for the world to function."

Aunt Bess sighed and a pain that hadn't been evident before spread across her face. "Go now and play." The old woman watched the sullen girl run after her friends. The old woman heard a whisper, and a deep chill sank into her heart.

Come. It is time you paid for your transgressions. Come Elizabeth. It is time. Even as she fought, Elizabeth O'Mallory slowly edged to to the line of ancient pines next to the sunlit park. An unnatural mist curled around the trunks. Come. You must pay. Come. The whispers sounded neither angry nor urgent, but she could not fight their spell. Soon she disappeared into the Mist.

Meghan O' Mallory never saw her aunt again, never thought much about the odd talks she had about the Seelie and Unseelie Court, never had a need too. She was too busy living a normal life.

Soon that will all change.

~*~

The Unseelie Court is preparing to take the throne from the Seelie Queen. Autumn is nearing, and the Unseelie Fae are buzzing with anticipation. This year will be different. This year, they will be more powerful. This year, the walls between the pitiful human Realm and Faery are thin, thinnest they've ever been.

The Unseelie King has a dirty plan, and he cannot wait to put it into action. All he needs is a strong human or two. Those that can withstand the harsh reality of Fae, those that can handle the glorious torture that the Unseelie feast upon, those that can take the erotic beating of body and soul and keep fighting.

When he finds them, his claws will not retract. He will devour them, absorb their energy and take over the entirety of Faery. He will take the Seelie Queen and lock her in the dungeon, play with her when he feels like it, and feed on human flesh for the rest of time.

Obviously, my character will be Meghan O'Mallory. But other characters can be anything. Here's a description of Seelie and Unseelie.

~*~

Seelie: The Seelie Court begins at the beginning of Spring. Seelie Fae are beautiful (in the human sense of the word.) Fauns, fairies, nymphs, sprites, brownies, etc. The pretty Fae that you read about in fairy tales are the images you may bring up with thinking of the Seelie.

However, the Seelie are not "good" in the human sense of the word. They are the light that balances the darkness. They do not care about humanity, apart from the fact that it keeps the balance of Fae. They can be spiteful and mean to humans, and they could care less if humans become trapped in Faery. They could care less if humans die. They can and will use humans if and when they are useful. Seelie are selfish and love their own beauty more than anything. They are deeply attracted to beautiful things. If you are human and perfect (the kind of perfect that Seelie can smell), they will try and entice you, try to arouse you, try to seduce you, and when this happens, you will never be the same. They feed off your arousal. If you can fight it, they enjoy it that much more.

They battle the Unseelie because the Unseelie smash beauty and darken light. This they cannot allow.

Unseelie: The Unseelie Court begins at the start of Autumn. Darkness is the Unseelies curtail, and despair and anger follow close behind. Unseelie are hideous (in our estimate of the term). They are terrifying creatures that live to suck warmth and happiness. They are the wraths, witches, minotaurs, harpies, etc.

Where the Seelie could be mistaken for good, it's very difficult to see an Unseelie as anything but what it truly is; dark. Some mistake them for Evil. They are not. They are merely the darkness that balances out the light. As creatures of light by nature, humans have an aversion to the Unseelie. To remedy this, when looking for human prey, Unseelie have mastered the Fae art of Glamour. While shielding by Glamour, any Fae -Seelie or Unseelie- can appear to humans and lesser Fae as whatever they wish.

Unseelie feed on the flesh of humans. Quite literally, some eat the flesh. However, more commonly, Unseelie force humans into a slight trance and take the human flesh sexually, to appease their hunger. This normally results in the death of the human.

Because there has been a decent balance for hundreds and hundreds of years, humans have lost most of their knowledge of Fae. Some still know all, but they are few and only know because they guard the gateways.

Gateways are the bridge between Faery and the human Realm. They are a thin veil that can be disrupted only at in-between times. Dusk, dawn, noon, midnight, half-moon, Winter Solstice, Summer Equinox, etc. And there hasn't been a large disturbance in centuries. The Unseelie King is planning on changing that.
