A crash-landed alien spaceship, seven sentient crystals, an insane Soviet scientist! |
[Introduction] During the Cold War era, an alien spaceship crashes in Soviet Russia. Top Soviet space scientist Boris Insanov and his team are surprised to find no crew on the ship, just a cargo of seven amazingly large gems or crystals, each one a different shape and color. When the "crystals" begin to awaken from hibernation, Boris Insanov realizes they are the beings who controlled the spaceship and sees his chance to grab the unimaginable powers of alien technology for his own purposes. The largest of the seven crystals began to tremble and vibrate in its laboratory holder. "Comrade Insanov! Come quickly! The crystal! It moves!" Boris Insanov, head of the People's Committee To Investigate Extraterrestrial Phenomena, rushed into his laboratory and stared at the huge crystal. "How can it move? Crystals do not move!" The technician Ivan Tolstoy, his eyes wide as saucers, pointed at the crystal and yelled, "It's alive! it's alive!". "If that is true," said Boris Insanov, "then I have made the greatest discovery in the history of mankind - life from another planet!" |
The Crystals were giving off a strange...Rainbow energy, kn the Lab,the Lab Rats felt the energy and began to act very strange, deperatly trying to get out of their cage |
The Bear didn't seem too much different but if you looked at the Bear's chest you could see a red orb the size of a man's fist right in the center of the Bear's chest |
"What just happened?" the guard asked. "If someone told me this without me seeing it, I'd believe they drink too much vodka. I have not had vodka today. Might drink some though." |
The guard went into the break room to grab a bottle of Vodka, while he's doing that Bruino made his way to Boris' lab "There the crystals, now to get them out of here. Question is, how will I do that without notice?" |
The guard thought about what he'd seen. "Best stick to drinking vodka. Too strange to have seen while sober anyway." |
Boris came in and saw that all the crystals were gone, so he spotted the guard drinking a bottle of vodka and went up to him and snatched the bottle from him just to get his attention, "What's going on here? Where are the rest of the crystals?" |
"They disappeared, Comrade Insanov!" said the guard. "Just like the first one!" Insanov slammed his fist into his hand. "Damn!" Then he grew thoughtful. "It happened just as that bear invaded the lab, didn't it?" "Yes, comrade, I think it did happen at about the same time." Boris Insanov scratched his short beard. "There is a connection there. I'm sure of it." Bruino sat on his haunches in the woods outside the lab and wondered what to do. His shipmates had panicked and were now scattered all over this planet. He could establish mental communication with them, but of course none of them had any idea where they were or how far away they were. He broadcast to all of them at once: Find a local animal and take over it's mind. Be sure to hide your crystal body in a safe place. This planet is occupied by an advanced species called humans. I have seen in the mind of one of them that a city called New York is the greatest city in the world. In the middle of this city is a large park. Let us all meet there eventually. It will not be easy because animals are not allowed in human cities. But I see no other choice. Does anyone have an alternative plan? |
"I do!" Said the Gem Brunio liked the least, The Purple Gem, who because he was Purple, thought himself more 'Noble' then other colors "Where are you?" Brunio sighed "And what is your plan?" "I am currently in a land called Africa." Said the Purple Gem "And have taken over a creature called a 'Lion' it is far more magnificent then that lump of brown you're inhabiting! I suggest, we use or new forms to murder that Human for daring to hold us captive!" |
Meanwhile, the Russian guard was drinking some more vodka. "Are you going to keep drinking?" Insanov asked. "Yes. Story much easier to tell when drunk. Less likely to be punished, or at least receive a lesser punishment, for I could claim that I was not on duty with the theft occurred." |
Bruino thought about what the Purple Gem had told him before it became Leandros the Crystal Lion. Kill the human that held us captive! "I can do that," Bruino said. "I'm right here in the woods outside the lab. I'll just sneak back in again, find Boris Isanov, and use these powerful claws on him." Bruino held up his claws and flexed them. That night Bruino reentered the lab, but the guards were more alert. They were all frightened of bears. The first one that saw him sounded the alarm. "The bear is back!" Shots were fired, but Bruino was already running down a different hallway. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea. He skidded to a stop. There before him stood the man he wanted to kill, Boris Isanov. But the man held a large gun in his hands and he pointed it at Bruino. The sound of the gunshot was deafening. Then Bruino found himself back in his crystal body in a cave in the woods somewhere in Russia. So the bear was killed, he thought. Now I have even more reasons to kill this man Isanov, but this time I must be more careful. He broadcast a message to any crystals that might still be in their crystal bodies and could receive it. Attention, shipmates! If you receive this call, please respond! |
"Great, you killed a strange bear," the Russian guard said. "Still, things won't look good when generals hear about this." |
Another guard says "What about those Animal rights groups? They'll be a lot of protest if this gets out." |
Bruino waited a long time, but finally another bear entered the cave and lay down to rest. Two days later it walked out of the cave speaking Russian and with an intent look in its eyes. This time Bruino did not attempt to enter the laboratory of Boris Insanov, but instead lurked in the shrubbery near by. When he saw his chance, he killed one of the guards. Insanov was sitting at his desk when he got the news. "What? Another bear? What is going on?" All the guards were put on high alert and everyone walked around fearfully, looking right and left, wondering if a bear was going to leap at them. |
Meanwhile Adelle the Penguin was enjoying her lease on life, jumping from ice floe to ice flow, swimming in the icy cold ocean, eating tiny fish and krill. Then while sitting on an ice floe, something knocked her off!, A Killer Whale was looking for snacks! |
This is not good! Adelle thought. Of course, worse comes to worse, maybe I can use that whale's body. |
Unfortunately, Adelle is powerless to stop the hungry whale but fortunately the blue gem found a new host body. The Orca. |
Bruino waited patiently outside the laboratory of Boris Insanov. Eventually Insanov came out the door and headed for his car. He never made it. Bruino turned him into mincemeat. His shattered body lay bleeding in the parking lot. Bruino ambled away. "Now I have avenged our mistreatment. Imagine a primitive life form like that trying to imprison an advanced life form like myself." Bruino broadcast a message to the other crystals. How is everybody doing? I have made a discovery. These earthlings have a primitive form of space travel called rockets. They use them for weapons but we can use them to return to space. In the country called USA there are many of these rockets buried in concrete tubes in the ground. Let's meet there and borrow a few. It took many weeks but finally all seven crystals were in a field in North Dakota near an ICBM base. Does everyone know what to do? Good. Let's proceed with Operation Leave Earth Forever. Several hours later seven intercontinental missiles mysteriously launched from the ICBM base. The generals panicked. Had they accidentally launched an attack on the Soviet Union? It had just been in the news a few months previously that one of the top Soviet space scientists had been killed by a bear but the Soviets suspected the Americans had actually done it. There was a sigh of relief among the generals when the seven missiles did not head for Russian targets, but instead kept going into outer space. No one ever did solve the mystery of the Seven Rockets That Launched Themselves. |
