"What the hell!" Randall yelled, his face red with fury.
pieces of glass were still falling to the ground, making a tinkling sound as they impacted the paved sidewalk below. Jenna stopped where she was, as if frozen, her arm outstretched, she seemed almost as shocked by what she'd done as Randall was, although not nearly as angry. He lumbered over to her. he really wasn't all that heavy, but he held himself in a peculiar way, almost a lazy half-step that caused him so sway from side to side. He spoke again:
"Jen, what the s***? That was the prize of my rock collection. Look at that s*** now. Do you know how long it took me to find that rock?"
The prize of his rock collection, a preposterously large piece of transparent quartz, was now split into several hundred sharps over a five foot radius in the driveway of the house.
"And what if that had hit somebody, Huh, Jen? Jesus, What if it had hit my car?"
Randall had been obsessed with his new car ever since he got it. He washed it constantly despite the abundance of rain this time of year. Sometimes Jenna swore he stole glances out the window at it, like he had stolen glances at her...once. That ship had sailed.
Jenna lowered her arms from their throwing position, and turned to face Randall. His plaid shirt was in disarray, as he'd just been waking up. His face, decidedly too small for his body overall, was red with anger. Jenna had to suppress a laugh when the though came that he looked like a big gatorade bottle, with those little red caps they have on top.
"What, was...was that a smile! What the hell is wrong with you? why are you suddenly being such a bitch? Helloo, anybody in there...c'mon, answer me!"
Randall's red face was maybe a foot from hers. She couldn't really blame him for being angry. He had no idea why she had done, it, thrown the rock. He couldn't know the seemingly endless, steadily increasing pile of things that had been taking space in her mind. The times when she had suggested vacations and he'd said no. the times when they had gotten into arguments over what channel to watch, which had escalated into full blown spats. Then that night when she had wanted to go out, but no, Randall was online bidding on Ebay for that goddamn rock. That was how he'd gotten it. And this was ho he'd lost it. Randall was yelling something else now, but Jenna was looking the other way, out the window, out the wreckage of the window. it seemed like there was something out there, beyond the jagged blades of broken glass. Something that wasn't here. Maybe it was just anywhere but here she was yearning for, maybe she had broken the window so she could escape...yes, it all made sense now...

Without pause, Jenna pulled out her wallet, and gave Randall the exact amount of money the rock had cost, plus some extra, although she knew that wouldn't really cover the cost of the window.. She knew it well. Jenna turned on Randall's stupefied face, on his arm, with his hand that had been clenched into a fist, but was now full of a wad of cash she had violently stuffed in it. Jenna walked down the stairs, grabbed her purse and coat, and walked out the front door. Outside, it was a sunny day, and she didn't even really need her coat. It was miraculous considering the recent weather. She passed Randall's car, and noticed that the rock had just barely missed it. She looked back, and saw Randall staring down at her through the shattered window, his face no longer red, his eyes widening with shock as she got into her car.
She turned again and he was still there as she slowly started to drive down the street.
He couldn't have known it was coming to this. She almost felt bad for him. Almost.
