'The Ghost Stories' of Edith Wharton.
Hi. I'm enjoying these tame ghost-stories.

They inspire creative thought for my writing. I do feel a bit let down, for I expected the stories to possess a disquieting chill factor, maybe like the Twilight Zone, but most did not. I find them too heavy on description and unnecessary background information. Wharton does excel in character development, however. So far, my favorites are, "The Eyes" and "Miss Mary Pask" and "Kerfol."

I personally love the concept of Ghosts, from Dicken's ghosts in Christmas Carol, to the Ghost played masterfully by Rex Harrison in the movie, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I've seen one too, as a child! I just don't like gory, violent ghosts stories, and fortunately Wharton did not either.

A humorous quote of Edith Wharton's about herself as a young woman: "I could not sleep in a room with a book containing a ghost story, and ...I have frequently had to burn books of this kind, because it frightened me to know they were downstairs in the library."

No wonder these Ghost stories are so tame!
