Barnes' novella somewhat disappointed me, but it kept my attention. It's a puzzle book, very much a modern contemporary story with an ending twist and shallow characters. The words were purty, though, so maybe that's why it won the Man-Booker.
1984 was worth the read, again, just to reinforce the idiocy of humans. It's overly verbose and has a lot of flaws by modern novel standards. I sat thinking it held no relevance today, and then I listened to North Korean citizens being iterviewed. Their fanatacism was right out of Orwell. Scary.
