Very true! It was especially helpful when I first joined. I mostly get positive reviews these days, but at the time, I needed far more work on storytelling basics. I had weaknesses pointed out to me that I worked on for ages-- overuse of adverbs, confusing pronouns, etc. For years, I edited my work for those two things as well as grammar... 3 edits for each piece. Another big one was the dreaded "information dump", which I did in every rough draft I ever wrote I think.
On the other hand, I had strengths pointed out to me that I was unaware of. Grabbing people's attention with my opening lines and concise wording that conveys lots of information, most notably. Who knew?
