Ancestor, by Raymond Steyn
I am about 1/4 of the way through Raymond Steyn's Ancestor. I purchased it as a Kindle Book to read on my iPad. So far, it's not bad. He seems to be setting up the characters and the situation pretty good, without tipping his hand too soon. I'm impressed (which is not easy to do...).

One of the things that made the classic monster movies so great was that you didn't get to actually see the monster until near the middle of the movie. Before that, all you saw was what it did. Likewise, when they made the Jaws movie (although it was completely unintentional, due to technical troubles with the mechanical shark...) you didn't actually see the shark until the last 1/3 of the movie. It makes for wonderful suspense, and keeps people interested.

Just a tip to new writers: Don't give away all your goodies too soon. Hold off as long as you can.......
