No, this is not a forum where you're going to find experts on copyright law. The site's Copyright Policy, which is linked at the very bottom of every page, has a link at the bottom to the Amazon page of a general information book on copyright. You could check your local library for a copy. Beyond that, you'd need to speak to a copyright lawyer.

Patents are a different thing, not related.

With published material, the copyright holder also holds the copyright to any derivative works, so I doubt what you're proposing would work.
