Whatcha readin'?

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell (2012)

Young adult - romance at the core but also drama. Made me cry in several places but I'm good at crying at happy scenes. Lot of swearing, and these kids are just 16 (made me think a lot about the 18+ rating here), but some of the best ways of describing being in love that I have read in a very, very long time. Very raw and real.

Wicked use of two third-person storytellers and nice to see how the chapters are broken up (one of the chapters is only 4 sentences long).

Set in 1986 so for all of you digital age readers, you get to learn about tapes (including the original 'mixed tape', the walkman and records . It was great!

And one of the best things was a small section by the author at the end, describing why she ended the story as she did and how she believes the characters live even after the reader has closed the book.
