A very "meta" read. It's a novel about a novel writer. Not just any writer either, but an unsuccessful one who, after getting his first book published, then failed to either finish or find publishers for every other book since.
His best friend, on the other hand, who our protagonist claims can't write for [insert at least a dozen epithets here], has received worldwide recognition and the fortune that goes along with it, for writing a politically-correct "rainbow colored" feel-good novel.
Our protagonist then proceeds to spend the rest of the novel attempting to bring his friend / rival down to his level, and make him rue the day he ever published "Amelior". :D
A very funny read, even if it does get excessively wordy at times.
"There is wanting the unobtainable, and there is the obtaining of desire, and the greatest of these is the wanting. Especially since the object of desire usually turns out to exist only in some alternate reality, to be mocked by actuality."
