Without a screen shot of the exact message, it would be hard to say. It almost sounds like a cookie/browser related issue (and some browsers can be weirder than others in this regard). This is the first time I've heard of it, but that might just be due to people running into this message not inquiring about it right away so those of us who frequent the support forums can take a look at it. If you or anyone else does see it, though, we encourage you to speak up and provide us as much information as you can. Given that there have been major site redesigns over the last five years, it's probably less likely to recur, but it's better to not rule out any possibilities.
