Anyone know where I should ask a question about how to differentiate between characters by using different dialogue?
At least in my first drafts, all my characters tend to sound the same. I want to go back and fix them (while retaining the content), but seem to be having trouble.
I know the obvious answer is to read more -- dialogue by different authors and origins (England, Scotland, Midwestern USA, Southern USA, Canada, etc.) but I've done that. I have all of them crammed up in my head, and I can't seem to separate them into discernable individual speaking styles, vocabulary, etc.
Any ideas on where to start looking?
