Note that the WritingML is available to everybody, not just the Upgraded+ memberships. You would need an Upgraded+ membership to use the Macro feature. The WritingML formatting button bar is working normally for me for both Chrome and Firefox on a PC. The Ctrl-B/etc. keyboard shortcuts are also working in a Static item body textbox, both on create and edit. More-specific directions are given below, but the problem may be you need to clear your browser cache. Clear browser cache. Shut down all browser windows. Reboot the browser. The WritingML formatting button bar doesn't work the same way as the button bar in Word. From Create/Edit a Static Item from Writing.Com 101 The bar of WritingML formatting buttons across the top of this text box includes the most commonly used formatting options. These buttons can be used to add formatting tags around your highlighted text. More WritingML can be found in WritingML: Docs & Help linked under Writing.Com Tools at the left. Used sparingly, formatting can really enhance your writing. Also, consider that many people will likely read your item online. For easy online reading, leave plenty of white space, such as a blank line between paragraphs. In this text box you can use WritingML tags such as the open bold tag and close bold tag to make selected words bold; the and tags to italicize words; and the and tags to underline words. Rules to remember: When you open a paired tag, you must close it, and if you open several paired tags together to format the same section of text, you must close them in the reverse of how they were opened (last opened, first closed). Which means specifically -- In text boxes such as email, forum posts, and item body text boxes, where you click inside the textbox and formatting buttons appear above the textbox -- You first highlight the text you want to be affected, and then click the appropriate button, which adds the WritingML codes in front of or around the text -- and leaves the text+codes highlighted. Clicking the same button again takes the codes out. Clicking a different button adds more WritingML codes. Before continuing to type, you must move the cursor to unhighlight the highlighted text+codes. If you just click a button without highlighting text, it puts in highlighted code(s). If you continue to type without moving the cursor to unhighlight them, the highlighted codes will be removed and replaced with the typing. If the button opens a menu, you might need to open the menu first, highlight the text, and then click the button in the submenu. If you are using an i-device, you may need to double tap to get the buttons to work. The site offers a text completer function in many of the textboxes around the site. As you type enough of the WritingML codes, a pop-up menu offers choices. Selecting a menu option completes the coding. With coding pairs, the cursor must be moved between them to add the text, and moved after the closing code to continue typing.
