Increase Your Paid Membership Level from Writing.Com 101  applies only when you purchase a higher level of membership than the paid membership you currently have.

If you purchase a membership that is the same as what you already have, the new membership is just added onto the end of your current membership, extending it by whatever time period you purchase.
