The width of the content (center) column is part of the viewing experience that is under the control of the viewer rather than the author. Maybe you would feel differently about the width of the center column if you adjusted your own screen to be easier to read. Viewers choose their device. Mobile devices have narrower screens already. Viewers with Upgraded+ memberships can close the right hand column on full site view. Viewers can click on the *reader* icon at the top right of the item to white out or black out both side columns while reading. Viewers can adjust the right margin of the WINDOW to control the width of the center column between the minimum and maximum screen widths the site supports. Viewers can choose the screen dimension setting that best matches their device. Account Options Site Display Options Page Width Maximum: This setting allows you to set the maximum width of Writing.Com's pages when viewed by your account. The 1,400 pixels wide is the default setting. Viewers can run zoom to increase the size of the font to what they are comfortable reading. The widths of the side columns increase when zoom is over 100%. The site still looks good with zoom in the 30-35% range, possibly higher. Browsers usually remember site-specific zoom settings for you. If you set a zoom setting in the accessibility options of your OS, the browser may pick it up and apply it to your online viewing, making that your very own custom 100% setting. Hope that helps.
