Ultimately, I want to get my novel published by a real publisher, my fall back position is e-publishing and at least 10 "real" sales.
To get their, I'm getting some work published in the local Writer's Guild (that step just about done, I made the cut, waiting for it to get assembled and released).
Next step is to get some short stories published in e-zines or something (anthologies, magazine, whatever). Something that pays, which means an editor had to choose to spend money on me or somebody else.
By then, my editing on my novel should be done (just finished the 1st draft last week). That's a very loose definition of "by then" as it could take years to get a short story accepted.
