Greetings, Gaia!

Welcome to this wondrous writing community, and congratulations on getting your first items posted. The following comments are offered in grateful response to your Review of "The Garden of Love" , written strictly from a reader's point of view, but they are nothing more than one man's opinions, so take them or leave them for whatever you think they may be worth.

This particular item is a clever way of introducing yourself: succinct and directly to the point. *Bigsmile*

With regard to your concerns about a lack of understanding the technical aspects of poetry, do not worry about that. Through much toil in search of precise language, experimentation with forming lines and stanzas, and extensive revision, the poet struggles to create a work that appears natural, authentic, and convincing to the reader. As a reader/reviewer, your only task is to evaluate how effectively the poet has accomplished that goal.

What to write about? Your memory bank is a treasure trove of images, events and emotional impressions just waiting to be plucked from the maelstrom. The world around you is full of fleeting sights, sounds, textures, and smells for any observer to capture and transform into an expressive piece of writing. They don’t have to be earth-shaking events. Make it a habit to keep a pad and pen handy to capture little every-day moments the way Don Henley did when he wrote a hit song about his impression of the evening news Dirty Laundry ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzT10MSgKtU ), or former Poet Laureate Ted Kooser did in his poem Dishwater ( https://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poem/dishwater ). In her book The Artist’s Way, Julia Cameron recommends setting your alarm clock a half-hour early and writing three longhand pages of stream-of-consciousness transcription before you do anything else in the morning. Don’t worry about grammar, structure or even re-reading them. Just store them away for later reference. In addition to getting your creative juices flowing, those “morning pages” may help to expand your awareness through a closer connection to your subconscious dreaming. If you can't think of anything else, write about all that negativism the critic inside you is spouting. That way, you can release all that angry, whiny, petty stuff that stands between you and your creativity, clearing a pathway to a strong and clear sense of self. Somewhere in all that sludge, I am sure you will find a few golden nuggets worth plucking, shaping and polishing into magnificent jewels. *Bigsmile*
