Where can you go to talk openly with friends and have a chance at winning GPS while you do it? What activity is there that allows friends to speak back and forth with instant communication? Let me introduce you to SCROLLING MESSAGES.
Whether you are looking for conversation, have a quick question, or simply want to hang out, SCROLL or SCROLLING MESSAGES, may be the place you should visit. In scroll, people often gather to talk about their day and to converse with others on various subjects. There are often games to play randomly throughout the day that will earn you GPS, as well as friends who drop in, to see who is LURKING about.

 Where can I find SCROLLING MESSAGES
On the far left hand side of the page, there are five personal icons going straight down, beginning with the forward link to your account overview and ending with Gps. Directly below those five icons, are a list of five smaller icons that go straight across the column. The very first one of these, which looks like a cartoon speech bubble, is the icon for the INSTANT MESSAGING CONSOLE. Click on this, and it will take you to the scrolling messages.
Membership level
Any member may view the scrolling messages, however, you must have an Upgraded Membership or higher in order to post in scroll. It may be fun to lurk about, but it is more fun when you can participate, rather than sit on the sidelines.
You can lose your privilege to post in SCROLL if you disregard the rules and guidelines set forth repeatedly.
Posting Rules
 Content in Scrolling must be kept to an ASR rating or less. Please see: "Content Rating System (CRS)" .
Averting the ASR rating of Scroll by referring to things as Non-ASR is not allowed and such messages may be removed.
Tags for items rated from E to 18+ are acceptable if the title's text falls within the 'ASR' rating of Scroll. (All WritingML Item tags will be automatically converted to tags.)
Promotion of Writing.Com items and offsite URLs within this area is acceptable in moderation only! Please use good judgment and do not constantly bombard everyone with advertising or you will lose scroll access.
Most WritingML tags will work with the exception of larger tags such as font, size, bitem, image and poll which, due to space restrictions, will not work.
English Only: Our site is based in the English language so we must request that conversation in scroll be kept to English only.
Harassment of other members, by any means within Writing.Com is strictly prohibited, will not be tolerated and may result in account termination.
Posting Games
Aside from posting messages back and forth, there are several games that can be played, both to win Gps, and also to give Gps to others, known as BOTS. Randomly there are anonymous system generated bots, in addition to the ones members can generate. The bots are a fun break from the usual chatter in scroll. On the INSTANT MESSAGING CONSOLE you will see a highlighted bar. On this bar, there are:
G ~ A guessing game of "Pick A Number"
P ~A tile puzzle game, insert a tile and try to figure out the phrase or word
T ~ A multiple choice trivia game
# ~A scoreboard displaying sponsors and winners
Another fun pastime is drawcards:
8  2  J  9 6 7 J  -?- J Q 9 6 2 -?- {code:drawcards(7)} {code:drawcards(5)}
using the code above, the number representing the amount of cards given, random cards will be drawn to give you your hand of cards. Many card games can be played using this fun pastime, however, remember that if there are ongoing conversations, randomly drawing cards may interfere with what is currently going on in the console. Please use etiquette when posting this type of game. There are at this time, no monetary Gp rewards associated with this.
What is Lurking
Lurking is a term used to describe those that have their Instant Message Console open, but do not post. They can view what is going on, but seldom if ever comment or join in. Some may join in to grab a BOT or two, other times they simply watch the conversations going on.
