Happy Howl-A-Ween!
These are extraordinary times, peopled by ranting maniacs in love with violence and with a violent god, infested with apologists for wickedness, who blame victims for their suffering and excuse murderers in the name of justice. These are times hammered by the Utopian schemes that have nearly destroyed civilization in the previous century, ideological wrecking balls that swing through our lives with sufficient force to demolish the hopes and dreams of multitudes.
But hey, it's Halloween, and I remain profoundly optimistic, for in every moment of every day, I see the beauty that lifts the spirit, and everywhere the subtle details that convince me the world is a place of deep design. This realistic assessment, faith, common sense, and enduring hope, ensure that the events of this time, or any other, have seldom surprised me, rarely struck terror, and have never reduced me to despair.
It used to be all about checking the candy our little ones brought home from Trick-or-Treating. Remember that? Now it's keeping them safe from baby rapers and mother stabbers, checking their schools to make sure no crazies are running around shooting up the place. But if you think about it, what better place to go shoot somebody than in a gun free zone? I mean, you're bound to get off quite a few shots before the police are able to respond, and if there's no good guy there with a gun, to protect our innocents, who's going to stop them?
Again, it's the crazies running the asylum.
But every now and then, a strangeness overcomes me, a sense that what is happening around me possesses meaning beyond what my five senses can perceive. It's like a worm crawling through my brain, not a worm in the literal sense, perhaps, but a worm of change, and I can not foresee what will be left of me once the worm has finished.
But it's Halloween, and yeah sure, Earth's magnetic pole might shift in a twink, as some scientists theorize it has done in the past, resulting in an entirely new angle of rotation, causing catastrophic changes in the surface of the planet; Or, we could be hit by a speeding asteroid from space resulting in thousands of volcanoes vomiting great burning seas of Earth's essence all over us as we attempt to gather Halloween candy. Or, of course we could have a zombie apocalypse, be overrun by a vampire plague, or start howling at a blood-red moon. But still, what's the chances of any of that happening on Halloween?

Hey,
I read this newsletter and automatically connected with the point of writing about one's different nightmares. This story was actually inspired by a very bizarre dream I had one night, and that left me falling back into consciousness at four in the morning. I'm new to this site, so I'm not really sure if writing in with my story like this is appropriate or not...Either way, read, don't read, it's all good.
In any case, the point that dreams can be fuel for writing is one I totally agree with. Great article :)
