She awaits

delicate soft hands gently embraces her fan
her foot taps beneath the hoops and satin
pearled ropes twined in her hair

she awaits

listening for hoofbeats in the distance
frothed mount announcing his arrival
clattering loud like her heart

she awaits

Lady's fragile china cup
settled on pure smooth linen
civilized tea to soothe impatience

she awaits

then bestows a soft smile
as he reaches for his Lady and
gently enfolds her hand within his
