The feelings of a beggar.
BEGGAR

I am a beggar, I beg
Of you to give me alms.
I have no pretensions and,
About begging, no qualms.

I too had once home and hearth,
And had a loving wife.
I lacked not what I desired.
I had a happy life.

I am a poor beggar now,
With no roof o’er my head.
I don’t have a bed to sleep,
Nor have a loaf of bread.

All avoid me in the street,
As if I were a plague.
I have no identity,
My existence is vague.

Though my clothes are torn and stink,
Unlike a gentleman,
Give me some bread, if you please,
I am a hungry man.
