A bittersweet love story (A Try Your Luck Entry)
A Feast of Hunger

The echo of a spoken vow
heard faintly o’er the years
reaches out to my heart now
but can’t erase the tears.

The dreams we shared at the start
have faded over time
leaving behind a wounded heart
but there was no crime.

The yearnings that seemed to consume us
were lost along the way.
The trials of life now seem to doom us;
our path has gone astray.

As I drift off the hunger comes
for all the might-have-beens.
I wander through a world of crumbs
as I count up my sins.

The morning light reveals your face,
I reach and touch your hand.
The hunger’s lost in your embrace …
I finally understand.
