Summary of this Book...
The theme of this novel is jealousy and consequences of greed, and its focus is on poor versus rich and blind ambition versus humility.

In the story, Mrs. Cassandra Wright, Cassie, is the demanding CEO of the Wright Glassworks. Her adopted daughter, Gwen, who isn’t comfortable with her own looks feels inferior to the beautiful, yet vicious and ambitious, Jewel. Jewel, on the other hand, is jealous of Gwen.
In the story, Jewel eventually marries a rich man, Jeff, in whose company Stan, the man Gwen married, becomes an employee.

The relationships between all these characters and their idiosyncrasies make this novel an interesting drama.

I always liked Belva Plain’s writing. This book, although it is a bit less impressive than her other works, is an enjoyable one, also.

Since this novel is this author’s last one, written in her old age, I still admired it, for it was entertaining and with acceptable characters, although I have seen better characterization in Belva Plain’s earlier works.
This type of Book is good for...
its entertainment value and characters
I especially liked...
the negative character of Jewel as I thought it was the best depicted one.
The n/a of this Book...
is Belva Plain (1915-2010) who has written close to 30 books.
I recommend this Book because...
It is fun to read and it was this author's last book, printed in 2004.
