Summary of this Book...
Addie Baum tells her story from birth in 1900 to present day to her granddaughter. Her story is full of heartache and happiness as most tend to be. She was born in Boston to Jewish immigrants who distrusted America and taught their daughters to forgo education, work hard to support the family, and find a husband. Their lives were hard and the constant disappointment from their mother and distance from their father would be enough to break most spirits, but not Addie's. She loved to learn and found ways to thwart her mother's advice and continue learning and working past the point where most women were married, much like her oldest sister. Her story is one of overcoming challenges presented by being a woman in the early 1900's.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who loves a heartfelt tale of someone who works hard to overcome disadvantage to make their way in the world.
I especially liked...
Addie's spirit; even when she was down she found a way to pull herself up and encourage those around her to do the same.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Follow my dreams because it is permitted and encouraged for women today.
This Book made me feel...
Sad that I hadn't taken the time to speak with my own grandmother before she passed about the challenges she faced in her life as a woman in the same time period.
The author of this Book...
Has a way of making the reader feel she is in the room with the character.
I recommend this Book because...
It is a wonderful story.
