Summary of this Book...
An odd contagion (Draco incendia trychophyton) has somehow been unleashed on the planet, causing human victims to spontaneously burst into flames. These people are known by the strange and somewhat beautiful 'tattoos' that the disease leaves on them. But since this disease is allegedly contagious, there are people that try to rid the world of the contaminated ones.
Harper Grayson, a nurse, is one of those infected, and her estranged husband happens to be one of the ones who are trying to rid the world of the infected. After moving to a utopian commune for others like herself, she finds that all is not what she hoped it would be. She and some of the infected people she meets there soon leave for another safe haven.
But is this new one really any better than the first?
I especially liked...
The way Joe Hill keeps the story flowing. His descriptions of the country side in New Hampshire and Maine are very well done, as are his characters.
I didn't like...
I thought the ending was a little too abrupt for such a long novel. It was good, but this reader could see it coming.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Go out and buy another of Joe Hill's books. However, I've already read all four of them, but hopefully he won't spend 4 years to write his next one like he did with The Fireman.
The author of this Book...
Joe Hill is a great up-and-coming novelist, and his books have already been on the New York Times Bestselling List. The son of acclaimed author Stephen King, he's definitely leaving his mark in the world of literature and fiction. And he's doing it all on his own!
I recommend this Book because...
At 747 pages, it's a very well written book, which is probably why it took him almost 4 years to complete it. But it was well worth it.
Further Comments...
This is Joe Hill's fourth book and his longest one to date. He's becoming better with each one he pens, and I have no doubt that he will leave his own mark in the genre of fiction and the supernatural.
