Summary of this Book...
This is the story of a friendship between 4 people that has some rocky times, but is still intact more than 20 years after they first met each other at college. It takes place in England mostly and tells the story of Eva, Benedict, Lucien and Sylvie from 1995 until 2015.

All of the friends experience ups and downs in their working lives and private ones. In the end, they are in a pretty good, but not perfect place.

It was a good story and a fast read, and the book held my interest. I read it in two days.
I didn't like...
the ending. It is somewhat ambiguous as to what Eva is doing there. I don't know - it didn't fit with her character (to me) or with the rest of the story. It is suddenly like, what, whoa, what is she doing?

In most of the modern books I read the ending is usually the weakest part of the book. That was certainly the case here as everything is wrapped up way too fast and then there is the confusing ending.

With regard to the characters, Lucien is the weakest and we don't get a clear sense of exactly where he is at the end of the book in light of where he's been.
Further Comments...
I loved this particular quote in the middle of the book about snotty people with children and the attitudes they sometimes adopt:

"...it was particularly galling coming from Lydia, who was apparently laboring under the misapprehension that her family was straight out of a Boden catalogue and blissfully unaware that in actual fact Eva couldn't think of a single better advertisement for the judicious use of contraception." I thought that was hilarious.

If this writer writes another book, I'll definitely check it out because she is very talented and witty in her storytelling. I bet she will improve with time and experience and become a great storyteller one of these days.
