Summary of this Book...
City is an apocalyptic novel, in which the world ends "not with a bang, but with a whisper." Reminiscent of Asimov's I, robot, City is a collection of short stories loosely interrelated written after World War II. It portrays a decadent peaceful almost pastoral world, in which Mankind evolutionates towards its own extinction, replaced first by Dogs and then Ants. This is an excerpt of an essay book review written by myself, in which I won a writing competition in redbubble.com
This type of Book is good for...
anyone who likes science fiction and apocalyptic novels.
I especially liked...
the very beginning of the book in which it sounds like the narrator is a man, but is actually an intelligent talking dog.
I didn't like...
Man becomes totally extinct and succeeded at the end by Ants and other insects as the only Earth's survivors.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
read other science fiction books that had happier endings.
This Book made me feel...
sad and depressed about Man's possible extinction.
The author of this Book...
won 3 Hugo awards, a Nebula and was named the 3rd Grand Master by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.
I recommend this Book because...
It is a well written collection of short stories forming a novel following the same story line with an science fiction theme.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It is quite sad and apocalyptic. Characterization is flat and characters do not change.
