Summary of this Book...
This is one of the most beautiful and disturbing books I've ever read. If I ever feel like I am having a hard time, I will reread this book. It is 120 pages about a 14-16 year old's experience as a survivor of Auschwitz and Buchenwald.

They were isolated, herded up, and transported to hell, all the while believing (at first) what they were told by the authorities. This is a chilling reminder of what Leftist Fascist maniacs can do to people and even their own country when set loose on society.

The train arrived at its destination. The males went one way, the females went another. Elie Wiesel and his Dad went in one direction and his mother and little sister went in the other. Elie was the only one who survived to tell the tale and to be part of helping his fellow human beings for many more years.

Elie Wiesel is one of my heroes for good reason. He feels like he failed his family in this writing, but hopefully before he died earlier this year he got to a place where he realized that he never failed them as he always did his best when most of us (99% of us) would have perished.

This is riveting and moving and a masterpiece. He definitely has a story to tell. It is translated, but that doesn't stop it from being extraordinarily moving and profoundly sad.

This quote is profound and eloquent and it says so much about what he experienced:

"Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky."
Further Comments...
This is how you tell the story of horror. Straightforward and true.

One of the most powerfully moving books I've ever read.
