They both shared scars under their chins. Hers was from a piece of glass that had cut her accidentally, and his from a fence that, as a three year old, he had tried to climb and had failed.

To most, having identical scars might not seem like much. Many people have scars in similar places, but this couple also carried matching pox marks between their eyes. Both contracted the disease, those pesky viruses circulating through their systems, at a young, but not too young age, and both lacked the ability to refrain from scratching. The small, but irritating nodule on their foreheads had been attacked, and, after the "reign of terror" ended, small, circular indentations remained which they carried with them through life.

I'm sitting in Oak Park again watching the world go by. It's not a bad way to spend a morning while I wait for my "soulmate" to finish her hair appointment.

Listening to music at my little bench, I can see people living their normal lives and try to imagine what they are doing. It's a pretty good exercise for my writing.
31 July, 2013:

As writers, we know that words are important. The meaning of words or, in the case of my upcoming example, the meanings of a phrase can vary based on how they are interpreted.

I was late coming home for lunch. I live close to work, so it's easy for me to leave work, drive home, eat, and come back within an hour. Today, we made a call that dragged into the normal time when I leave. When the call finished, I realized that I had roughly thirty minutes until the next meeting. I called home, let my "soulmate" know that I was running late, and was informed that we were having chicken salad, so it would travel easily. I could take it back to work.

Now, I thought I was having chicken, mixed with mayonnaise, with that mixture placed on bread or in a pita. It turns out, I was having lettuce, chicken, tomatoes, and carrots with salad dressing. Chicken SALAD.

The good news is that both are delicious, and my lunch, even though I ate it in shifts, was great.

I normally write these on my smartphone, but I want to see how the system works at Writing.com. So, this is a test of my first microblog here. Nothing exciting in this post, but we'll see what comes of this.
