VETERANS DAY ON TURNBERRY STREET

They come from all corners of this city,
the old soldiers, standing tall and proud
as they line up at the starting point,
ready to march before the waiting crowd.

White hair covered with a battered cap
that sports the name of their service ties,
their suits are pressed and shoes polished
and there are tears in some men's eyes.

The men and women newly returned from duty
wear uniforms and fall behind those who
walk slower down Turnberry Street,in unison,
their colors carried with all honor due.

The marching band leads the way through
the town whose residents watch and applaud
those who have served their country well,
and remember those missing, claimed by God.

Lest we forget, as ravages of time overtake
each of us who pass along this way, remember
the sacrifice of those who serve our country,
continue to honor all of them this Veterans Day.
