Using the inspiration from a friends words to tell a story
Sunflowers stand stoically, swaying in the warm August breeze.
Canvassed by blue skies they cast golden shadows on bodies beneath.
Facing the sun they preen as children graze and tease their leaves.
Ladybugs scatter across petals of yellow trying to hide from a child's eye.
Fingers reach longingly for reflecting red bodies; on tippy-toes they stand.
Red and black specks take flight as children give chase.
Taunting their pursuers with gentle maneuvers they zig and they zag.
Children slowed by laughter, breathless they fall to pastures of green.
Cheerful encouragement spoken from Mother; they rise and make haste.
A lone red spot among shadows the young eyes spy, silently they sneak.
Fingers reach out eagerly; gently enticing the trust of a lady.
Softly she moves from finger to finger, inquisitive eyes follow.
Questions whispered to a mother; young minds learn as smiles abound.
Silently taking flight, blissful children watch her rise and disappear.
Quietly she returns to lemon colored flowers to rest her weary wings.
Peacefully watching from her towering perch the sun fades to dusk.
Visions of ladybugs and land-bound fairies fade into dreams.
Images of a warm August summer as sunflowers sway in the cool, moonlit night.
