I signal for an exit lane, looking for a familiar hotel sign and dinner.
I have seen love and heartache
while driving through Valentine
more asleep than awake,
listening to the tires whine.

I am driving away from you.
Day dreams want to intrude,
like sun rays in a sky so blue,
but I am not in a shiny mood.

Traffic moves slow, but I have time,
so I just go with the gentle flow.
I remember when you were mine,
when you set my heart aglow.

I yawn and contemplate hotel stays.
I wanted to make a thousand miles,
but there are other travel days,
when I shall again attack life's trials.

I signal for an exit lane and brake,
looking for a familiar hotel sign
and a dinner of eggs and steak.
In Valentine, good and bad entwine.
