A poem about how emotions got the best of me that time.
My writing seems calmer than I actually feel;
It’s filled with great wisdom and affirmative zeal.
But the emotions and heartaches, I’m dearth to conceal –
Headaches and stress make me constantly kneel.

With that taste of beyond comes a need for more,
When people affirm that great things are in store,
But these well-meaning patrons have opened the door
To the perception of ruinous frustrations galore!

Gripped by mind-numbing feelings, I break,
My brain filled with pride on the walks I must take –
People’s perceptions and attitudes take the cake
For all the injustices and wrongs I must shake…

From youth to adulthood, they’re positive they can
Contain the inner child of every woman and man.
But minds shall take hold, while we dubiously plan
And assert a loose grip during that tumultuous span…

So beyond the great writing and astute accolades
Comes the dark revelation of shovels and spades,
As a future of promise and making the grades
Become emotional ruin which compromise fades.
