The American Woman
Will Justice Prevail?

For whom does the silent bugle blow?
The American woman above all should know.
Through red rimmed eyes and from shore to shore,
She watched her men stride off to war.

As to their fate she may never know,
their blood on a thousand fields did flow.
Upon that land she shed her tears,
while to her breast she hid her fears.

And when they lay beneath the soil,
She continued on in endless toil.
A land of freedom she fought to build,
in many a house on many a field.

Her blood and sweat and endless strife,
Brought forth a land of bountiful life.
She fought not only her endless fears,
but she did it often for many years.

For those who marched in step from war,
she had built a home and open door.
And for those who were scared for life,
she became a provider, a mother and wife.

Her scars of battle were from adversity,
from toil and fear and uncertainty.
She had no medals of honor to wear,
but she always provided her gentle care.

For many years she was denied a hand,
in the shaping and ruling of this land.
But she fought and won an equal place,
and became a warrior of shining grace.

Today she stands with open pride,
no longer her sex and anger to hide.
She’s trained and ready to make her stand,
to defend with honor this sacred land.

And to whom does mercy and justice go,
only the American woman would know.
