A piece about my mother
Looking back at what a fool I've been
shames me to the bone.
For so many years methamphetamine
was the best friend I've ever known.

I've spent a lifetime running away
while doing my own thing –
Leaving my real best friend,
in the gallows alone to hang.

I have treated her as my enemy
'round every curve and every bend.
But now I know just how lucky I am
to have my mother as my best friend!
